getting ready to retire. do more people take humana or bcbs? most people i talk to in ohio take bcbs but i hear humana here.any thoughts one way or the other?

I would guess it would matter which state you plan on residing in...wouldn't hurt to get some advice from our benefit reps? I would also trust the advice of Jim Fisher, benefit rep, at the LAP Union Hall. Give him a call and see what he has to add.

Personally I took BCBS. Union deducts $34 a month for insurance from your pension check. It all changes when you apply for Social Security and Medicare. Approx. $130 a month is deducted from your SS check but UAW then reimburses you $74 a month. There are a lot of changes (most not good) when you retire and apply for SS and Medicare. The costs for out of pocket go up considerably. Also, many of your covered benefits change dramatically. Check with you benefits rep for more in depth details. Active workers will appreciate the coverage they have now when they see what happens upon retirement. Good luck and long retirement!!
