COACHES MEETING FOR THE 2016 SOFTBALL SEASON: The UAW Softball Co-Ed League is
scheduled to start tentatively June 12. We need to see how many teams (UAW 862
Members only) are interested in playing this year. There will be a Coaches
Meeting Sunday May 1, 2016 starting at 3:00 pm at the LAP Union Hall Gym (Fern
Valley Road). Please bring your tentative rosters. You must have a preliminary
roster (max 15 players & 3 reserves) with you at the meeting. This is so we
can see how many teams are interested. All players must be UAW Local 862 members
in good standing. Official rosters must be set prior to the second game. No
exceptions! You may want to combine teams at this meeting. Please have your $150
forfeit fee; cash due two weeks prior to start of season (approximately June
12). Each forfeit costs your team $75. After the second forfeit your team is
out of the league. If your team has no forfeits then money will be refunded at
the end of the season. The coach or a representative must be present at the
meeting. If you are a player without a team, please show up to this meeting to
meet coaches who may need players. If you cannot make the meeting, or have
questions, then please contact Amanda Goins, Recreation Chair, at
aegoins862@gmail.com prior to the meeting with the above information.
KY DERBY MINI MARATHON WATER STOP: On April 30th UAW 862 will be volunteering
for the KY Derby Festival Mini Marathon Water Stop. It is located at 4th and
Kentucky. We need 50+ people to cover the area. As in the past, the
Recreation Committee will cook and provide breakfast for all of the
volunteers. All volunteers need to be at 4th & KY before the roads close at
6:00 am. Volunteers will be needed to set up the tables, and pour water and
PowerAde into cups. Also volunteers will be needed to clean up the area once
all runners have passed our water stop. Wear clothing and shoes that you don't
mind getting wet (from cups dropped). The race goes off rain or shine. If
you already have a red UAW volunteer t-shirt, please wear it. All volunteers
will also need to sign a waiver. If you volunteered last year and signed a
waiver, we have it on file no need to sign another one. It is a great
opportunity for students who need community service hours for school. If you
would like to volunteer please contact the LAP Union Hall at 502-969-9136.
You will need to sign a waiver the morning of the water stop.
