The vehicle from India seems smallish like an extended Fiesta. Hope Trump taxes the shit out of them. Mark Fields was on the news earlier lying his ass off about Ford building vehicles outside the US. Not one time did he answer the reporters questions about them making profits on foreign soil.

And of course no one pointed out the real reason that they build units overseas is so that he can get a larger bonus or stock option or salary increase. Guess the folks at the top can't survive on a normal CEO salary, gotta have the one that even the media talks about. Then there's the corporate tax structure overseas. That saves them money too. Our salary, which is only 8%-9% of the cost of the vehicle, is only a smoke screen they use.

The UAW's "Friend " President Obama, gave Chrysler to Fiat ( the Italian company run by a known union buster) and then set out a plan to "forgive" Chrylser of it's debt to US tax payers in exchange for meeting set levels of imports. The stated goal was to reduce pollution by importing more fuel efficient vehicles, but reality is that American tax payers where forced to subsidize a foreign car maker at the expense of American jobs. Anyway aside from bashing the UAW ...... I don't know that Trump has the legal power to simply raise tariffs on India. I'm apparently quite combative, and not so good at negotiations. That said, I feel like the UAW should have drawn the line in the sand decades ago. In exchange for concessions all cars sold in the US by Ford/GM/ Chrylser, should be built in the US. Protectionism is wrong, and never beneficial over the long run, but that doesn't mean there should be no tariffs. Our government has screwed us over for decades giving not only giving trade deals to countries like Japan that are unfairly balanced in foreign state's advantage, but in some cases setting up programs that actually use tax money from the workers loosing there very jobs to subsidize indirectly the foreign business that take those workers jobs. It's become to big and deep a legal problem to solve short term. Or so I think, but like you, I only know part of the picture.....
