LAP to Keep LincolnWASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said on Thursday Ford Motor Co Chairman Bill Ford had just told him the automaker had decided not to move production at a Kentucky plant to Mexico.
"I worked hard with Bill Ford to keep the Lincoln plant in Kentucky. I owed it to the great State of Kentucky for their confidence in me!" Trump said on Twitter. (Reporting by Eric Beech; Editing by Sandra Maler) Earlier today on MSNBC there was talk of Ford taking more than the Focus to Mexico. I guess Ford failed to tell us the Lincoln was in the move down south,

Not true. I heard from an engineer over a month ago that the Lincoln was staying and they were already working on tooling for the 2018 Lincoln model change.

Not true. I heard from an engineer over a month ago that the Lincoln was staying and they were already working on tooling for the 2018 Lincoln model change. Not what we were told. We were told by someone in upper mgt. the Lincoln would be gone before 2018. My guess is you're in paint? A few others in paint were also saying we are getting a new vehicle in 2018, which seems to be false.

Yes, I'm in paint. Yes there have been rumors of an all new vehicle which may or may not happen. But I have seen engineers and maintenance working on new tooling for 2018 and was told it was for the Lincoln and that it was not leaving. Maybe they said is true, maybe not, but they are working on new tooling and programing for something.

Lol. If true...... It might be good news IF the Lincoln was selling. We just had 2 layoff weeks WITH the Lincoln.

Even when the talk was that the Lincoln was leaving I never heard that it was going to Mexico.

Even when the talk was that the Lincoln was leaving I never heard that it was going to Mexico. Exactly . We were not told where it was going. Even our new contract stated that the Lincoln was leaving. If anyone has links or documentation that states the Lincoln was staying here, please post up. If it's not in writing it's just a rumor.

Well the Lincoln would have to go where there was a platform to build it. MAP was one and the other place would be where the Transit Connect is since the Escape, MKC, Focus and Connect are all built on a C platform. Since the Focus was going to Mexico per contract and Map was getting retooled for the Ranger then that was where MKC was going. Only reason the MKC was leaving was to build more Escapes but since the market has dropped off then why spend money to move it. Trump didn't do a thing to keep it here, they just are letting him think he did.

I'm with you, I don't think he had anything to do with it, they were keeping it here anyway & just threw him a bone to get him off their back. Keeping the Lincoln isn't going to help us very much though... we just don't sell enough of them

Does anyone remember the old bumper sticker that stated something to the effect of: For every foreign car the US loses 6?-7?-8? jobs. I don't recall the number of US jobs lost nor the exact phrasing. Any old timers out there with a better memory than mine remember? Also, why don't we see these stickers anymore?
