BLOOD DRIVE 2/20: The LAP Annual Blood Drive will be in the Plant in the UAW
Training Room “A.” Contact your supervisor for information or appointment.
Dates and times are as follows: Monday, Feb. 20 thru Thursday Feb. 23 from 7
am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 11 pm and on Friday, February 24 from 7 am to 1 pm and 5
pm to 9:30 pm. Ask your process coach about scheduling an appointment.
JUNIOR ACHIEVMENT BOWLING TOURNAMENT 2/25: The 3rd Annual Junior Achievement
9-Pin TAP Bowling Tournament will be held on Saturday, February 25th at
“Strike and Spare” located at 911 Phillips Lane with a 6:00 pm start.
Registration forms can by picked up at the LAP or KTP Union Hall or by calling
Leila Burch at 502-569-9212. Its $50 per person or $200 per team: Team is five
(5) bowlers per lane.
CARL CASPER 2/25 & 2/26: The “Charity Corner” located in the main cafe will
be selling discount tickets for the Carl Casper Custom Auto Show. Tickets are
$12 and will be sold in limited quantities.
POLAR PLUNGE 3/18: The UAW/Ford Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for
UAW/Ford employees and their families to come together in support of the 7,800
Special Olympics athletes across Kentucky. UAW/Ford has a long standing history
of giving back to its community, and your generosity is greatly appreciated. One
in six families is touched by Special Olympics and with more than 10,000
employees, UAW/Ford can make a huge impact on the athletes we serve. For more

2nd Annual Prom Party 3/18 - On March 18th 2017 the Derby City CLUW Members of
KY and UAW Local 862 Ford Members will host the 2nd Annual Prom Party. We are
requesting new/clean and gently used prom dresses, “after five” shoes,
evening clutch bags and any accessories you wish to donate for a prom event.
Items can be dropped off at either of the UAW Local 862 union halls between the
hours of 8am and 4pm. Also volunteers are needed on March 17th to set up, and on
March 18th, the day of the event. Any questions call Vera Newton 364-3973.
PROFIT SHARING ELECTION: The Profit Sharing election process has changed due to
the 2015 UAW-Ford Collective Bargaining Agreement, and how bonus elections are
made. As a result, your 2016 Profit Sharing payment will utilize your current
bonus election on www.myfordbenefits.com.If you want to change or make a bonus
election, you must take action by Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 4 p.m. Eastern
Time. If you do not have a bonus election on file, your payment will be in
cash.
PROFIT SHARING: Profit Sharing payout will be on or before March 10th.
FREEDOM FROM SMOKING: Free smoking cessation classes will be offered starting
the week of March 13th. Register at www.nortonhealthcare.com or contact your
ESSP rep for details.
UAW-FORD HOURLY OPTIONAL LIFE ENROLLMENT: UAW-Ford Hourly Optional Life &
Accident Programs “Open Enrollment” period for 2017 will be from 3-20-17 to
4-28-17. We will have representatives from UniCare at our location once per
shift. Look for a future announcement on dates and times
QUALITY: We have been notified that we are getting a lot of extra bolts and nuts
dropped in units that are causing rattles. Please pick only the amount you are
going to use so you know if you drop one. REMEMBER if you drop it pick it up. If
you don’t have a drop down for a lose bolt in QLS on your job and need one
tell your Process Coach.
UAW CLINIC SPECIALS: Vitamin B12, B-Complex and D shots are offered Monday
through Friday 10 am – 5 pm.
Flu shots will be available as well and are covered by Ford's insurance plan.
Come by the clinic anytime between 10am - 5 pm Monday through Friday with your
insurance card and get your flu shot for the upcoming flu season! Call the
clinic at 502-208-1803 to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions!

A Moment in Black History
Charles Alfred “Chief” Anderson Sr.
1907-1996 Nicknamed “Chief” by his aviation students, Charles Alfred
Anderson, Sr. served as the Chief Civilian Flight Instructor for the Tuskegee
Institute’s groundbreaking program to train black pilots. When President
Franklin D. Roosevelt established a military aviation program at Tuskegee in
1941. Anderson was tasked with training the famous World War II Tuskegee Airmen.
Between 1940 and 1946, he was responsible for supervising the primary flight
instruction of approximately 1,000 African American pilots and flight personnel.
The 450 Tuskegee Airmen who saw combat flew 1,378 combat missions, destroyed 260
enemy planes, and earned over 150 Flying Crosses among numerous other awards.
Anderson first made history in 1932 when he and another aviator became the first
African Americans to complete a round-trip, transcontinental flight between
Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Los Angeles, California. After the Allied victory
in World War II, Anderson continued to instruct civilian pilots and support the
proliferation of aeronautical education among African Americans. In 1985, he
received the Frank G. Brewer Trophy for outstanding contributions to the
development of air youth in America. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013, he
will forever be known as the “Father of African American Aviation”.
