President Dunn’s Weekly Newsletter
Volume 1, Issue 218 February 15, 2017
Polar Plunge –The UAW/Ford Polar Plunge is the first of its kind and Special
Olympics Kentucky could not be more proud to have your support. The UAW/Ford
Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for UAW/Ford employees and their families
to come together in support the 7,800 Special Olympics athletes across Kentucky.
UAW/Ford has a long-standing history of giving back to its community, and your
generosity is greatly appreciated. One in six families is touched by Special
Olympics and with more than 10,000 employees, UAW/Ford can make a huge impact on
the athletes we serve. Similar to the traditional Polar Plunge, participants
must raise a minimum of $75 in order to plunge, or in this case, take a chilly
ride down an inflatable slide into a pool. There will be a costume contest and
prizes for the best individual and group costumes. There will also be a Polar
Cup awarded to the top fundraiser. The first plunge will be at the Louisville
Assembly Plant UAW Hall on March 18 and the second will be at the Kentucky Truck
Assembly Plant UAW Hall on March 19. To register, or for more information about
the event, including event schedule, visit 2017uawplunge.kintera.org or contact
Emily Olesh at 502-326-5002 or by e-mail at eolesh@soky.org.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade - UAW/FORD is one of the sponsors for the St.
Patrick’s Parade this year. Everyone is invited to march in the parade. The
parade is Saturday, March 11th, at 3:00pm. Due to construction at the corner
of Broadway and Baxter, this year’s staging area has not been assigned, yet.
The Phoenix Hill area has been leveled and will not be used as our staging area
like it was in years past. Information will be put out as to where the staging
area will be prior to the parade. If you are volunteering or marching in the
parade, be in the staging area at 1:30pm (once we know where that is). Show up
early. Find a parking place on a side street then walk to staging area. Do
not park in Mid City Mall; they will tow you. If you have any questions call
Kevin Powers at 502-429-2341.
Riders for Heroes 30 Guns In 30 days of June – Tickets will not be available
for purchase until the RFH Meeting on March 12 at 12:00pm at the LAP Union Hall
for all RFH members. Therefore, if you have considered being a member and have
not done so, and want a ticket, this will be your opportunity. The remaining
tickets will be available to all UAW members at the regular Union Meetings on
March 14th at the LAP Union Hall. Any remaining tickets will be divided and sold
in the plants. Daily numbers will go by the Kentucky Lottery Midday Drawing
numbers. You must pass a KY State background check for firearms to claim
prizes.
