LAP opened up a referral period and I tried to give mine to three different people with no success. At LAP new hires are temporary part times for usually over a year plus before they ever become full time, then they have a waiting period for insurance which doesn't even start until they are officially full time. Now they are converting TPT's to summer help.
Two of the guys I offered a referral to already work in manufacturing but their facilities are air conditioned! They also currently make more money per hour than what is offered for new hires here and have health insurance. Giving that up and hoping for full time employment with benefits somewhere down the road (2-3 yrs) is a crap shoot to them. What a shame, I know that these two kids have a very strong work ethic and show up to work everyday. One has a wife and baby and currently works all overtime that is offered. They both came from very structured family environments with rules and manners.
The kids they hire now are told up front that they are part time so the only ones who can take the jobs are still living at home with Mom and Dad. They only need enough money for gas and a buzz yet the company can't figure out why they don't come to work.
