VETERANS DAY PARADE – Local 862 will be a major participant in the 2017
Louisville Veterans Day Parade. The parade will be held this Saturday,
November 11th at 11:00am in Downtown Louisville. There will be 100 “We
Support Veterans” shirts given away to the first 100 UAW members who arrive to
participate. The shirts are for participants only. This year’s event will
focus on honoring our veterans, past and present. The parade schedule is as
follows…
We will meet at LAP Union Hall at 8:30am, 8:30am-8:55am we begin passing out
shirts to UAW members, coordinate vehicle order, and gather colors. We will
depart the LAP Union Hall promptly at 9:00am, arrive downtown at 9:25am. From
9:25am-10:00am we will pass out any remaining shirts and small American flags.
At 10:00am all participants will lineup in parade order and the parade will
begin at 11:00am.
Louisville’s holiday in the city – Holiday In The City will kick off with
the 37th Annual Light Up Louisville tradition on Friday November 24, the day
after Thanksgiving with the usual dazzling array of lights, lights and more
lights, and continue throughout the holiday season with ice-skating at Holiday
Square located at 4th and Jefferson. The evening will include the arrival of
Santa Claus, tens of thousands of downtown holiday lights and fireworks with the
action centered on a main stage at Fourth and Main. UAW and Ford are a couple of
this year’s sponsors.
UAW OFFICIAL APP – The official app of the UAW is now available for free on
the App Store, for IPhone or the Play Store, for Android. Connect with us to get
the latest updates, sign up for email and text alerts, learn about events in
your area, take action, and read stories that are relevant to you. For the first
time ever, the full 2015 UAW contracts with Ford is available to you right on
your phone through the UAW app. Scroll to the bottom of the menu on the app,
select “Auto Bargaining Resources,” then select your company. You will be
directed to a page with the contract summary booklet you received during 2015
negotiations and the full language of the ratified contract below. Text
“APP” to 99795* to get a link to download the UAW app sent right to your
smartphone.
VETERANS EAT FREE ON VETERANS DAY – Mission BBQ, located at 4607 Shelbyville
Road in St. Matthews is inviting all veterans, active duty and reserve members
for a free meal on Veterans Day. The meal will include a sandwich and cake.
Hours will be 11:00am – 10:00pm. At noon, there will be a special ceremony
with the National Anthem performed live.
