Decisions are based on money. If they close today, they have to pay everybody short work week. If they don't close and not enough people show up to run they will make you stay 4 hrs, then short work week for the remaining hours; but the folks who didn't show up they don't owe them anything. Also, if they work and the stock doesn't make it in they charge that back to the vendor for production loss. The weather isn't a factor. If you go in you'll probably only work four hrs then drive home on those ice and snow covered roads. This is usually where you rekindle your relationship with God!!

Is Ford going to shut down for the weather today? This has to be a troll of sorts. Ford never shuts down for weather. Several times the KY governor has declared a state of emergency, demanding that all vehicles stay off the roads except for emergency vehicles. Ford still expected you to get to work. Ford does not close, ever.

Did you go to Conway Heaton to trade it in? The way I figure it, with A-plan you only pay about half of what the four wheel drive is worth. Then when you trade it in you get that back because you'll get more for a four wheel drive truck than a two wheel. Basically, you only pay for the four wheel drive once, after that you just keep rolling it over.

You almost would never need a 4x4 around here. The 4 or 5 days a year your glad you have it. The other 360 it eats gas.

Mileage is only dependent if the drive is engaged. The difference is trivial at best.

And probably missed on their holiday pay for Monday. Smart.

Mileage is only dependent if the drive is engaged. The difference is trivial at best. I traded in my '03 crew cab for a 2016 crew aluminum body, both 4x4. The first few times I got gas I could tell a difference in the mileage. Have never sat down and done the actual math but the new aluminum bodies definitely get better mileage. They are light though and haven't had any experiences in the snow yet; afraid the lighter body will not bode as well as the old ones plus I wasn't able to get the rear end that I wanted. After retirement when I'm not pushed for time I plan on ordering one the way I want.

I know the contract changes over time and I don't keep up with the particulars but years ago the holiday rule was that the day missed had to be in the same week/pay period as the holiday. For instance on a Monday holiday if you miss Friday you still get the Holiday pay but if you miss Tuesday you do not. Yet even in those days everyone still thought that if you miss the day before or the day after a holiday you didn't get the holiday pay, never knowing the same week rule. Now I'm not saying this is still the rule but if you know someone well enough who missed Friday ask them to let you know if they get paid for the Holiday. If so this little info might come in handy sometime!

Different pay period, has zero effect on your holiday pay. Even so I’d rather miss out on couple hundred bucks than destroy my car/truck, pay a $500/$1000 deductible and have my rates raised maybe $500 a year for a couple years. Stay safe people

If we had decent union reps or anyone that knew anything about it we could be better informed. I was told if you call in scheduled day before or day after a holiday you miss your holiday pay. If its a requested day off you are fine. Friday would be our scheduled day before holiday.

Below is the contract language. I see nothing about "the day missed must be within the week/pay period of the holiday."
ARTICLE IX WAGES AND OTHER ECONOMIC MATTERS Section 22. Paid Holiday Plan (a) General Eligibility Rules
Employees must meet the following eligibility rules to receive holiday pay:
(1) The employee has seniority as of the date of the holiday;
(2) The employee would otherwise have been scheduled to work on such day if it had not been observed as a holiday; and
(3) The employee must have worked the last scheduled working day prior to, and the next scheduled working day after, such holiday within the employee’s scheduled workweek, except in the case of holidays which fall in the Christmas holiday period.
The week ending January 14 was a scheduled workweek as is the week ending January 21. The holiday was on January 15.

The Blizzard of 1978 hit the Ford Lorain Assembly Plant at about 5:30 am as the day shift was arriving to start at 6:00 am. Virtually everyone came to work that morning. Yet anyone who turned on the radio knew what was coming as news reports from points west detailed the massive storm that was approaching. Ford did not cancel production that morning.
When the assembly line was finally stopped at 10:00 am and the employees released to return to their homes it was too late. No one was able to leave the parking lot. In fact, teams were formed to rescue people who became lost in the company parking lot in whiteout conditions. No one left the plant for almost 3 days.
From the Akron-Beacon Journal, January 21, 2008:

Ford doesn’t care about your safety. Just get here and keep building trucks. Quantity is job 1. Quality and safety are way down the list.

I actually heard some 2 year guy ask if they were going to let us off early before the storm hit the other day. We were like "what the fuck for?". He said so we can get home safely.... These kids are funny with their warm fuzzy bullshit ideas of the compassion of global industry.
