2018 Family Scholarship –This summer (July 22-27), introduce your family to a
once-in-a-lifetime experience! Since 1970, thousands of UAW members and their
families have participated in the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education
Center Scholarship Program. Located in scenic Onaway, Michigan on Black Lake,
the Center was envisioned by legendary UAW President, Walter Reuther to be a
place where UAW members and their families could come together to learn and
relax. All active or laid off UAW members in good standing are eligible to apply
for a Family Scholarship if you have never attended the program before.
Application packets are available at both Local 862 union halls. Deadline for
submission is June 15, 2018. Info on Black Lake is available at
uawblacklake.com.
South Park Country Club – South Park would like to welcome UAW 862 for another
year! Through the efforts of the UAW 862 Recreation Chair the membership was
renewed until February 15, 2019. Your benefits consist of $22 for cart and green
fees per round. Tee off at any time Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, before 2pm on
Wednesday, and after 1pm on the weekends. Tee times may be reserved up to one
week in advance. Enjoy a great round of golf at a wonderful course with friends
and coworkers. Players must show their local 862 union card and follow the
club’s dress code. All alcohol must be purchased from the bar. (502) 969-5757,
915 S. Park Rd. Fairdale, KY 40118.
MLK march to move - It is hard to believe that April 4th will mark 50 years
since the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. It is uncanny how necessary it is,
at present, to reflect upon King’s legacy, amplify our voices (on issues like
education, pensions and healthcare) and connect people to groups committed to
democracy, at this moment of historic significance. The MLK March will be held
on Wednesday, April 4th at 1:30pm and will be from Capitol Avenue to the
Kentucky State Capitol. The program will be in front of the Capitol Building.
4th Annual UAW 862 Bowl Benefitting Junior Achievement – The event that was
held on February 24th and raised $4787. This brings the grand total for the last
four years to $19,007. Thank you to all those that participated.
