Union Meeting
01/12/2010
Chamberlain Lane Hall
KTP Chairman's Report
· Order bank: Super Duty-22,975 units; Expedition-7,994 units; Navigator-2,321
units
· We are scheduled eight (8) hours up to February 5, 2010. The plan is to have all
2010 units built by the end of the shift on Thursday February 4, 2010. This will
allow the plant to run fifty (50) 2011 model units on Friday February 5, 2010, with
the official launch date of February 15, 2010. This is the Monday following the
down week.
· The week of February 8, 2010, is still a scheduled down week for re-tooling and
cleaning of the anti-freeze lines. Some classifications will still be scheduled to
work: some team leaders, sub systems, pre-delivery inspectors, launch trainers
some shop paint and metal repairman, etc.
· With the plant being on an eight (8) hours schedule we have an agreement from
management not to short shift Monday through Thursday if the production goal is
met which are no more than one thousand one hundred and fifty eight (1,158)
units a day. Any short shifting will be done on Friday. Unless there is a break
down, part shortage, etc.
· A bulletin from Labor Relations will be sent out to all employees regarding the
schedule for February 15, 2010, ONLY. The tentative schedule is as follows:
o P-trim, Frame, Chassis, Pre-delivery
#2 shift 6 am start
#3 shift 11 am start
o U-trim, Toe-in/Rolls, Shop Repair, Pre-Delivery Repair, sub-systems, and
25 mile drivers
#2 shift 6 am start
#3 shift 2:30 pm start
The reason for the two (2) hour overlap is to allow the final area to cross
train and communicate between day and night shift. This will help insure that
both shifts are doing the operation the same.
· Starting the week of February 15, 2010, Cintas will be in the old fitness center
room at gate 6 distributing uniforms. A bulletin from Labor Relations will list the
times that the uniforms can be picked up by the employee. Only the employee
can pick up his/her uniforms and must have ID badge available to show.
· I cannot emphasize safety enough. We had a death of an experienced millwright
during Christmas shutdown due to a tragic accident in the plant. Everyone needs
to look out for themselves and their co-workers to insure that we all remain safe
while at work. We must adhere to all safety rules. We have very dangerous jobs
and you should never let down your guard.
· Management cancelled the bid for weld inspector due to an employee with that
classification returning from a medical leave. There is now the proper amount of
weld inspectors on all three (3) shifts.
· Ford Motor Company's 2010 Fusion Hybrid and the 2010 Transit Van won the
2010 car and truck of the year award at the Detroit Auto show this week. It is
only the third time in seventeen (17) years that a manufacturer has captured both
in the same year.
· A plaque to honor Ron Cassidy and two other gentlemen who died while working
in the plant in the 1970's will be made so that we may never forget our coworkers
and friends. We are also looking into a plan to plant a tree on the
property to honor these gentlemen.
