....falling out. No $#&^, I talked to a friend of mine that said he was struck in traffic a few days ago. Expecting to see a fender-bender he noticed as he passed the cop car there was a Tacoma in the blocked lane, by itself, with one end of its driveshaft on the ground. www.cnn.com/2010/US/02/13/tacoma.recall/index.html

This is not the only thing they have been covering up. There is an issue with sludge build up in Camry engines, Tacoma frames rusting all the way through. Toyota sent out letters to Tacoma owners asking them to remove their spare tire because it could rust through and fall. Tacoma owners were also told not two use their trucks to plow snow.
These things have been swept under the rug for so long including gas pedals and brakes. It's now just starting to come out.

Calvin, did you see the story some local news station did up in New England about the guy who had a SPOTLESS Tundra, a really good looking 7-8 year old truck?
His mechanic told him not to drive it because the rear spring hanger and frame had rusted out so much, you could have kicked a hole in it. His mechanic said he couldn't weld another spring hanger on, becasue there wasn't enough metal left in the frame.
So the guy had a BEAUTIFUL used truck that was totally worthless.

jalopnik.com/376911/rusty-toyota-tacoma-toyota-may-buy-back-your-truck-for-150-the-valueI don't want to pee on any parades, but this is how Toyoduh handling the rusty frames. Unfortunately, Ford would never do something like this. The current climate would probably seriously stretch their reserves for a similar program. "Toyota will either repair or offer to repurchase your vehicle. This is where it gets interesting. No matter what condition your truck is in, Toyota will buy it back at 150% the KBB "excellent condition" price."

Oh great another Japanese apologist...
Let me guess, Obama is the reason Toyota is having problems.
Ford doesn't have to do this...their frames are not rusting through.
Of course Toyota is buying them back. It's much cheaper to buy them back on a individual basis than recalling them and alerting all the poor saps that don't realize their riding around in a truck with a frame that is rusted half way through. There are more out there it's just that most people don't inspect the frames of their vehicles.

Hardly, Calvin. You will never hear me apologize for the bastards. I just wanted to point out that Toyota makes an effort to give the customer a warm and fuzzy when they have problems. Go talk to any of the 6.0L diesel owners that will never buy another Ford. It's not because they had problems, it is because Ford refused to address the situation and gave many of those owners the run around.

If you read the discussions following the stories about Toyota's latest recalls, I think you will find many Toyota owners are not getting that "warm and fuzzy" feeling from the customer service they are getting.

The auto industry critics always faulted Ford for being slow in geting new products to market , hopefully now they will see why we don't rush things. HASTE MAKES WASTE!!!
