According to Fred Willard LAP wants to eliminate 37 jobs asap and the IUAW said "NO" (isn't that unusual). Union contends breach of contract and says jobs can only be eliminated during 120 day letter or an engineering change. Detroit just keeps getting dumber and dumber (better save yor money); to try to eliminate jobs right after you gloated in the press about having your wage/benefit concessions reinstated is like pissing in the wind.

I'm still wondering if LAP will have 2 shifts up and running in the 4th qtr of 2011 like the union has told everybody....my gut feeling is thinking not, I dont have any real reason to back my thinking, just dont trust anybody anymore.

Maverick, go with your gut feeling. Who knows what they will do? Probably no one right now, including FoMoCo.

1 shift when they come back for retool in the 4th quarter of 2011 they will add the 2nd shift in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2012. Anything else is just the union trying to put its best face on the situation. I have no doubt that there will be two shifts at LAP but it will take longer for the 2nd shift to get back to work. I think the union may be spinning this for their own reasons.

I dont see two shifts at LAP There will be two shifts at LAP after retool, count on that. The Kuga alone will require 1 shift.

The escape sold 173,000 last year, the mariner 28,000. Add the kuga & we have to work at least 2 shifts.

I'm with you on that one lap65.Ford can't afford to sacrifice sales like that by running one shift of those models.

There is not going to be an Escape and Kuga. They are the same vehicle.

The escape sold 173,000 last year, the mariner 28,000. Add the kuga & we have to work at least 2 shifts. Until KCAP quits building the Escape (which is a year or two away), LAP will be the overflow plant...not the sole builder of the Escape. So one shift should be enough until KCAP gets their new unit, which they were guaranteed in the last contract modification.

Thats what I thought too Calvin, but everyone I have asked Union included has said the Kuga is not replacing the escape & that we are getting both.

I hope I'm wrong...but why would Ford produce 2 compact SUV's on the same platform? The 2012 Escape is on the C1 platform.

That was my question exactly, & I thought the same thing you do (really I still think that), but we have been told more than once we are getting the escape AND the kuga, we'll just have to wait & see. Lots of rumors right now, seems like we are going back into another season of Ford wanting everybody to be scared again for some reason.

Kuga goes to Europe, the Escape, Mariner, and now even the possibilty of a Lincoln name plate will be here in the US. KCAP will be getting the Transit when the Escape variants leave there.

That makes sense and is what I am saying...The right hand drive Kuga will be produced at LAP for export to Europe. The Escape is the same vehicle except left hand drive of course for sale in America. The Kuga and Escape are the same vehicle just sold in different countries. It makes sense to build them both at LAP but that kind of leaves KC without a product. They could put the Transit in there but Avon Lake was told they were getting the Transit to replace the Econline.

Transit-OHIO...Transit Connect-KCAP...two different vehicles.

Correct...but can the Transit Connect support a whole plant? Or is KC gonna be the Transit Connect plus overflow C cars?

I don't think I have ever seen any absolute guarantees of a vehicle to any plant. Just alot of possibilities. Always dependent on economic situation.

Bennaround is exactly right. Who can tell that far ahead what the American public will be buying? I just looked at a new Transit vehicle at Bill Collins yesterday. Cool little van type of vehicle, built on a Focus type platform, similar to the Scion. This particular one was built in Turkey. Will Americans buy it? Who knows.

somewhere i read they are saying that the post office is looking into replacing their delivry vehicles, and that the transit connect would be a possible replacement, if this happens we will have two shifts just suppling all the commercial aspect let alone passenger transit connects. Then as i said a couple years ago they could supply ups and ship them across the street. Lap is supposed to be on two shifts when we come back after retool, body and paint will be bck may or june of 011 and the rest will follow later a couple months down the road. The rumor is they will have both shifts work together for about a month and then 2 nd shift is on their own after that, just rumors

I have heard a lot of the above rumors as well, but until they actually happen.I am holding my nuts! There is a lot of talk going around, speculation, media hype and in good faith I do believe L.A.P. will be a booming plant in the near future. As far as K.C.A.P and O.H.A.P.,I truly hope that they receive their products as well,or it can create a lot of complication for us here at L.A.P. Like Scott said,There is rumor for Ohio Assembly to build the Transit to replace the Econoline van.I have also heard of them receiving the Ford 100.There is speculation that K.C.A.P. will build the Transit Connect,a smaller size version of the Transit, with better gas mileage and lots of extra space than an ordinary mini van.Ohio Assembly contract to build the Econoline van was extended to 2014 and has close to 175 people loaned out for recall to avoid layoffs within their plant.Still face cuts in the future, but are scheduled five tens for the next month or so.Of course, the number of employees coming from K.C.A.P could rise significantly around the time we are to return back from Chicago Assembly. They can transfer with there unit to L.A.P. and could see some form of loan similar to ours.I hope what Scott says is true, that we will be a overflow plant til K.C.A.P. prepare to build the transit connect. That looks like a mess!with 900 people being laid off at Flat Rock ,MI..It could become a crowded house at L.A.P.My advice to any employee at Ford motor Co. is to invest in a Motor Home,LOL!When is Ford going to enforce the strike ruling? The I-U.A.W. is protecting close to 500 people right now.Add close to 700 or more people to this list and contract negotiation in Sept. of 2011.It just doesn't look good. How long will Ford manage to run 3 shifts at L.A.P.?Lots of questions and lots of uncertainty. The only thing that will tell the story is time.At Ford Motor Co.,things change hourly, not daily.So.....Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.Chi-town,here I come! That is,If I am even given that opportunity correctly.1.Recall rights, signed by Bob King and somebody with a executive title from Ford on that paper. And lets hope they don't renig on it as well!!seems to be pretty common nowadays!Even if it is in writing.

Oh yeah!Don't let me forget the closing of Twin Cities. But they only have about 200 people. The other 500 are TPT's or should I say TFT's.

I guess a better and less complicated question would be...Is Ford going to have 3 assembly plants building the C platform?
That seems a little crowded to me.
