Just a rumor: I have a friend that went to KC Assembly Plant when SLAP closed, she told me there is a strong rumor that her plant will close and Escape production would move to LAP.
Has anyone heard that? Why Ford would do this makes no sense! Close a plant that is currrently running and making good selling product and move production to LAP? Even if they did this, the people working at the KC plant could follow the product.
If I hear further info I will pass it along.

I go back and forth on this one. I have said for a while that KC was in trouble. The reason it makes sense is because KC can build the current Escape as is while LAP retools for the new C platform Escape. This allows Ford to continue producing the hot selling Escape during the retool. Then when LAP is ready to start up with the all new Escape...stop production at KC.
The best thing that happend to LAP(Explorer) and MTP(Expedition) for that matter, was to have products that weren't selling. That alowed Ford to shut these plants down for retool and move their now low volume products(Explorer to Chicago, Expedition to KTP) to other plants. KC(Escape going to LAP) and Wayne Assembly(Focus going to MTP) could not be shut down and retooled because their current products are selling too well.
KC has two plants KC1 and KC2. One builds the F150 and the other builds the Escape.
For some reason though I think that LAP is only getting the right hand drive Escape and will be an overflow plant for the regular Escape and Focus. Possibly getting the Transit Connect or C max as their exlusive vehicle.

KCAP was supposed to get the normal kuga and something else.

I think this is where some of the confusion is coming from.
The Escape and the Kuga are the same vehicle. The 2012 Escape will be what is now the European Kuga.
