New Ford Explorer to demystify 4WD with terrain management system
When the all-new Ford Explorer launches later this year, it will feature a terrain management system that takes the guesswork out of 4WD capabilities for drivers. Explorer's terrain management system optimizes vehicle behavior to match road and weather conditions drivers are likely to encounter, allowing them to choose between snow, sand, mud, hill descent and normal positions via a switchable, console-mounted knob. Each setting will optimize traction, power delivery and torque to handle road conditions anytime, anywhere. From police cars to ambulances, construction trucks and utility vans, Ford is the leader in commercial and government fleet sales. The company is strengthening that leadership this year, offering 100 percent of its fleet vehicles with fuel-efficient powertrains and other sustainable technologies to improve fuel economy, reduce CO2 emissions and significantly reduce ownership costs for fleet customers. Ford is hands-on in building high-tech culture
Ford has teamed up with the University of Michigan, Microsoft and Intel to take the next big thing in in-car connectivity to Maker Faire, the world's largest do-it-yourself ideas festival. Cloud Computing in the Commute, a course taught at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, has students implementing a range of technologies to harness the power of social networks to safely and responsibly connect to the cloud. Using an advanced research platform, the students are building a new class of apps for cars. The course is part of Ford's larger American Journey 2.0 project; the winning app will get embedded in a 2011 Ford Fiesta to be driven by the student team on a socially networked road trip to San Mateo, Calif., for the festival May 22. more...
