Recently, at the National Ford Council Meeting, Vice-President, Bob King
reported out on the policy grievances protecting the “Equality of Sacrifice”
language of the March 2009 Modification. Bob presented a letter reinstating the
tuition assistance plan for hourly employee through the term of the 2007
Collective Bargaining Agreement. The National Ford Department is continuing to
work on the monetary aspects of the modifications and will go to arbitration if
necessary. The grievance demands that the Company will either reinstate
compensation comparable to the announced salaried restoration or rescind the
Company’s restoration. King criticized Ford for giving bonuses to salary next
year without restoring the hourly workforce wages.
Vice-President King also brought up the promises broken by Ford, while closing
plants in Atlanta, St. Louis and others. King vowed to strike over product
commitments in the 2007 and 2009 agreement if the Company reneges on the
products. Plants such as Ohio Assembly, Rawsonville, Cleveland and Lima, as
well as Louisville Assembly and Michigan Truck were mentioned.
In addition, during the meeting Bob discussed the restructuring of the
International Representatives Staff in order to better service the locals and
membership. Assistant Director, Brock Roy, also addressed restructuring with
the Sub-Council II attendants as a way to bridge the gap between International,
Region and Locals.
While the National Ford Department staff has been reduced by two thirds, the
restructuring will enable our International Ford Representative, Darryl Nolen,
to service our location on all issues. Before, different representatives
handled different areas such as quality, safety and the like. Darryl is the
representative for LAP, KTP and Kansas City Assembly.
