I know you guys hate him but having BP agree to put up 20 billion to pay damages. Its not a cap and you can still sue if you wish is gigantic. I don't think any time in our history that this has happened. And I realy didn't think Obama could or would do it.
Reagan capped what oil companies would have to pay after Exxon Valdez so realy BP could have used that as an excuse. And the fishermen and others that had their incomes destroyed didn't get paid til 30 years later if they were still alive.
And you can't count Reagans toxic spill cleanup known as "Superfund" that only paid for cleanups (taxpayers paid 40% of that) It didn't give money to those people impacted at all.
Carp about this all you want. If you are a conservative free market guy you should love this. Instead of socializing BP's loses as we normaly do he is making them pay for it. I'm sure some will still hate it so lets hear from you.
So you hate the Bush bailouts. What about this?

If I was BP, I would drag out these cases in court for YEARS. There will be so many bogus claims, it will be sickening. All the legitimate claims should be paid ASAP. If they want the problem to go away, they will limit the depth at which they can drill. Drilling at a mile deep is ludicrous. He's all about big government...so maybe he can create some new laws and regulations.

I think he said the right things, it will be a huge snafu though with lots of time involved. Scott the ocean floor is a mile deep, the oil is another 4 miles below that. Thats what has to be done since the U.S. still uses so much oil. We humans resist change, no matter what's at stake.

Reagan wasnt president on March 24, 1989,when the valdez went down.
Bill clinton was in charge when oil cleanups was limited to 75 Million.

Just one more fact to give ya guys.BP wanted to drill in 500 feet of water in louisiana and they said yes BUT the FEDS came in and said no you must drill in 5000FT of water!!But BP or nobody else had ever cleaned a broken well that deep. So to me the FEDS are the ones to blame.

There have been many many of these bills signed bill c passed one also the 75 million cap one.
My point is the FEDS are the ones at fault not letting BP drill closer to shore like they wanted.

There’s no way bp can completely repair all of this damage and stay in business. The more we get from them now the less the taxpayers will have to pay.
The govt convinced them to promise 20 billion. The money is going to be held and distributed by the same third party that distributed the charity for 9/11 families.
