Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on July 30
FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 29, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags
at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday, July 30, 2010
in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation
Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Pfc. James J. O’Quin, 20, of El Paso,
Texas, died July 23 in Orgun-E, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from a
non-combat related incident when he was swept away by the current when a levee
broke near his military vehicle in Paktika, Afghanistan. He was assigned to
the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st
Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for Pfc. O’Quin will be held on July 30 at 12:30 p.m.
Central time at the Hope Chapel in Fort Bliss, Texas. Burial services will
immediately follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in Fort Bliss. Gov.
Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to
half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government
agencies to join in this tribute.
