The NESC went in and stopped the HealthCare coverage and vision coverage at the same time as the Dental. This was a mistake. I have generated list of people that were affected and have the NESC and Humana fixing this issue. As an ILO and your were laid off on July 6th, 2009, your Health Care and Vision Coverage will end Beginning September 1st. You can call the NESC at 1-800-248-4444 to verify.
Thank you, Jim Fisher UAW Benefits Rep.

I have just found out that UniCare is no longer handling Cobra. Cobra is now being handled through the new NESC. Thye only send the packet out when your coverage is terminated. If you received one because your coverage was terminated by mistake, you should receive another next month. You only have until 9/29/10 to submit for cash pay cobra. Cobra can only be taking out for the balance of the 18 months. Which will end 1/7/2011.
Other insurance options are: KCHIP (free HealthCare for KY children) call Larry Badgett 502-641-2582, Regional KCHIP Enrollment Specialist. Also Humana MarketPoint call Rick Elmore at 502-643-1738... I have known Rick for close to 30 years... He is a personal insurance Specialist with Humana...

Hey Jim, Do you have any numbers for insurance options in Indiana? Since I am 'poor' now, I'm not sure if I'll be able to afford Cobra. Thank you!

Yes Jim, can you do anything for us? I can't afford the Cobra but I'm afraid of going without ins. If I let Ins. lapse, when does it restart? When we go to work in Nov.? or is there a grace period? Also, will we get any problems from Humana when we reup? Thanks for the info and for keepin us updated. I see this number here for Rick E. I'll probably call him for a quote. thanks....

Indiana has a Insurance program similar to the Kentucky KCHIP. It's call the Hoosier Health Wise Help Line 1-800-889-9949. I am not familiar with the plan. You would need to call the service number. If you don't qualify, I would look into Humana Market Point and get some sort of katastrophic plan. Even if it's a very high deductable, it would be worth getting the Humana discounts at the in-network physicians. Also it would protect you if you were to come down with something very serious.
When you get back to work, your benefits will resume the 1st day of the month following your return.
Thank you, Jim Fisher

When I took my current job I denied insurance coverage because I was led to believe that I could pay for Cobra for around $400 a month for an additional 18 months. This was and is a good deal compared to insurance coverage through other employers. NOW I find out that I can only have ins for 4 months! I have to tell my new employer that I have to have ins. now and this may be one of the reasons they hired me! How many more times am I gonna have to grab my ankles. I have never been so uninformed in my life. I wonder how many strikes I have for turning down Chicago, Michigan, and N.Y. I bet I won't even have the option of going back to Ford but won't know it till I try to go in the first day. I should have taken the buy out and wish they would offer it again.

If there are any Veterans, be sure to check with VA to inquire about registering for medical benefits.

Mr. or Mrs. Undies the information about Cobra in my prior post came straight from the Cobra information and forms that were mailed to your address of record in July of 2009 and again earlier this year. I have a copy that an ILO worker brought to me. It's right there all you had to do is read your own information.
Thank you, Jim Fisher

Just read my continuation of coverage forms (just in case I missed something the other times I read it) and no mention that cobra coverage will end on jan 7, 2011. Thanks for your concern with my lack of actually doing something though.

On the "Notice of COBRA Eligibility for Continuation of health Care coverage" notice that is dated July 24, 2009, page 2 - mid ways down the page. There is a Question that says "How long does COBRA last?" The 3rd paragraph under that heading says " As a result of the above-mentioned event that will end your coverage under the Plan, you are entitled to continue your Health Care coverage for up to 18 MONTHS. If you elect to continue your coverage under the Plan, your continuation coverage will begin on 08/01/2010 and can last until 01/07/2011. Then goes in to the coverage will also be terminated if payments are not received on time. The copy of the paperwork was donated to me last year from the "madman". Please understand I am not trying to be a smart butt. I am here to help and we (Local 862 leadership) have tried to assist and keep the ILO members informed. If I can be any assistance, Please contact me at 502-969-3286.
Thank you, Jim Fisher Jr.
