Every year i see people taking their breaks out the door...Every year i hear management saying we can't take our breaks out the door because it makes Ford Liable. Some areas do it.....actually all areas do it .....secret deals with certain managers..we all know of them. Paint takes 14 minutes on the end(don't even say they dont because i recently worked in paint). Bodyshop takes their 30 min lunch out the door. WTF!!! either we all can do it or we can't. And yes those extra minutes count!! Getting home to say bye to the wife before she goes to work or actually getting to drop the kids off at the buss stop matters alot. Soo is Ford Liable or not? ...... if so why the fuk do certain areas leave early? I'm not talking about a few individuals either more like several drots worth.

I think you answered your own inquiry...as with anything else, the area you are in, the salary running the area, etc all matter. Why can everyone on chassis but 6 people read magazines/newspapers? It's happening. How can salary tell a worker that he/she are not allowed to talk to anyone while the line is running while everyone else in the plant is free to converse? It will always be that way unfortunately. As for Ford being liable...they can wiggle their way out of any liability. Kind of similar to no one ever has an accident at work....they intentionally harmed themselves while at Ford.

Who knows where the liability rumor started or keeps radiating from.
At Ford we leave on our breaks, to eat, or run to the bank or whatever. If they ever were sued for someone getting hurt leaving on the clock, acting like they didn't know it happens would never stand since anyone can stand at the door daily and watch a flow of people leave and no one questioning it.
There is no contracual language on you not being able to leave on break, there has never been a push to stop it since I have been here, so I believe this is just one of those urban myth type things that will probably never die.

This is just nonsense. The entire Paint department takes 16 minutes out the door everynight if we don't relieve.

Body takes their lunch on the end because we run around the clock.
