I've heard several people say some of the Michigan plants have Air condition in them. Is this true? I've even heard the Corvette plant has AC.
If this is true why doesn't KTP have AC? It makes sense to have it in a plant that realy needs it than in one that doesn't. If we can't get it in the whole plant why not in the hots spots like"BODYSHOP". I know some of the paint department has cool air vents over several work stations why not something in Body?
The reason body shops needs it more than others is because of the cover-alls and the thick ass kevlar sleaves and the heat from the welding robots. Cover-alls and kevlar, i'm betting can drive the body tempature up considerably. Also when the wet bub test is done IS COVERALLS AND KEVLAR ADDED TO THE EQUASION?
This year we had a ton of hot days over 90. THIS IS A BIG ISSUE WITH OUR PLANT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE CUSS MR BIG FOOT JUST AINT CUTTING IT!

They don't run Bigfoot at full capacity anyway. there is a waste of money IMO. Yes Bodyshop is hot as HELL. I work 3-11 and it sucks some days. But Paint has AC and cool air vents because they have several ovens that are hundreds of degrees inside so the radiant heat from them on the outside is probably considerably hotter than what we get even in the Body Shop. As far as having AC in the plant it would more than likely be cost prohibitive and inefficient because doors and roolups are open constantly all around the place. Yes its hot but keep yourself hydrated and if you feel sick go to Medical. At least this week it will start cooling off.

Going to medical several days in a row will get you harassed by management . THAT reason alone is the bigest reason people do not go to medical otherwise a shit ton would go up to medical. Most of the people in this plant are scared to doing anything because they think we have a weak union and when the chips are thrown in the Union will be no where in site. Hell i bet over half of the people wouldnt know the symptoms of a heat stoke.

Im not saying go to Med every day. They pass out a sheet every year with information on heat related illnesses. It isnt very hard to know if you feel dizzy or lightheaeded. Personally I have not ever been to medical for heat but Im glad its there if I need it. I also used to be an EMT so I tend to keep an eye on everyone around me and make sure they are OK. Now Im sorry if my statement was misunderstood but I did not mean it to sound easy. Bottom line is take care of yourself first and foremost because Ford sure isnt going to. At least we get fluids, maybe next year we can get heat breaks.

OK, we had a good number of people goto medical for heat related issues. To my knowledge from speaking to some of them after the fact, there has not been any harassment of those employees at all.
Why make the assumption the union won't back you? Try it and see instead of guessing or listening to someone say they won't. You might like what you get. If your union hasn't backed you, let me know and I will address it. #429-2409
I haven't been to every plant in MI but the Rouge does not have AC it has what is called "conditioned air" and part of them getting that included ZERO fans in the plant. We were there this summer it was hot as hell. I read their contract proposal book in the union office, about half their proposals where to get fans int he plant. Conditioned air vs. fans......keep the fans.
A little info on the big foots. Some people get angry they are not on all day. But the way they work is they exchange outside air for inside, sucking that air through the doors. They run in the summer when it is cooler outside than inside. So when it gets cool at night it runs all night to try to lower the temp inside. Once it is hotter outside than in, it turns off to try to keep the cooler air in. Most feel they should run all the time but as the day warms up, if it is still cooler inside even by a few degrees then turning them on is just going to suck the hotter outside air in that much faster.
Lets hope we never have anotehr summer like this one.

As for my opinion on this issue I'll say this: As much money as we've spent and spend on fans throughout the plant in all areas there could've been a better way. Be it AC or something else there quite possibly could've been a better solution for the most part. Moving fans around from job rebalancing and fixing broken ones always seems to be issues we deal with maintenance. The other thing I see is since FTPM is not being done anymore the fans are filthy and get so clogged with dust and dirt the air flow is greatly diminished.
