Please marcus, give a specific definition of socialism today, and to what degree we are, or are not somewhat of a social democracy............
I'd be interested to hear it.

I think we are moving toward a "European style of socialism" Pure socialism (like the USSR) proved to be a failure. The European form is a more democratic form but I still believe it will ultimately fail into some form of dictatorship, as will our republic eventually, mostly due to corruption. Just my opinion.

America has many programs that are socialistic by nature, Social security, Medicare, unemployment benefits, and now we may have the new health care plan that President Obama has signed into law. All these programs take money from one group to benefit another. That is Socialism. It rewards bad behavior, "why should I work hard when I can get the same benefits and not work" . This is the one of the biggest problems with organized labor. It takes away a persons ability to excel and promotes laziness. The country as a whole will become more divided than it already is. Corrupt politicians (from both parties) will continue to overspend till the whole economy collapses on itself. It will happen, the multi trillion dollar debt is already unpayable and they know it. It's just a matter of time!

Axle here is my issue with that. The union promotes equal treatment. Most of us, and I am sure yourself worked other places before we came here. Did the hardest worker get promoted? Or was it the pet or suckass. I don't think I ever worked in a place, including here, where the best person for the job normaly got the job. So yes, if the non union system realy promoted the hardest working it would be a great system, but we all know it rarely works that way.

Don't necessarily disagree with you Kess, the suckass or pets do get promoted sometimes. The suckasses get taken care of in the union system also, so I guess we're all just screwed. Thats life, but I do think we could do better in the UAW if they could just weed out a few bad eggs!

The guy who AWOLS, plays the medical games, doesn't contribute as hard as the rest of us gets to make the same pay, even if he gets fired and the UAW gets him back on. Its not the best person that gets the job all the time. I have seen so many jobs get filled at LAP on favoritism or by being related to someone either in the UAW or Company level. Yea, the UAW got us our wages and benefits etc. But we all know the crack heads and drunks who don't want to work and they still get payed. If the UAW took a stand and got rid of the trash, I might have a better opinion of them.

analspasm Great post.
We punish the people in this country that create the jobs by taxing them crazy amounts and then theres the EPA regs and all the other regs that go with it. Social security, Medicare, unemployment benefits, and now we may have the new health care plan, farm subs, Cash for Clunkers
This administration has an unprecedented number of “czars” and advisors each assigned to work on specific areas of “transformation”. As White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel likes to say’ “Never let a crisis go to waste.” This administration is using legislation, regulation and manipulation to shape their transformational policies
Give me my money and let me take care of myself!! Thats what freedom is and no I dont just blame OBAMA its not just him.
