Report from the Meetings held on September 28th & 30th 2010
The following is a report from the Sub-Council II meetings that were held on September 28th and 30th 2010 in Washington, D.C.
Reports were given by each of the Locals listed below. They include plant work schedules, number of shifts, plant populations,
product information, and other significant items of interest.
Local 36 - Wixom Assembly Plant – Plant Closed, the Chairperson reported the facility is in the process of being sold to Clairoyant and Xtreme
Power, the site will be used to manufacturing solar panels, wind turbines, and battery storage units
• Reported that extraction of all facility tooling and equipment should be completed in December 2010
• Reported that all Skilled and Non-Skilled members from Wixom Assembly Plant have been permanently placed at other locations
Local 249 - Kansas City Assembly Plant – Ford Escape & Escape Hybrid, Mercury Mariner & Mariner Hybrid, Mazda Tribute, and Ford F-150
Trucks (all versions); Production - 40 hour weekly work schedule with 3 Crews (4X10 AWS) for SUVs & 50 hour weekly work
schedule with 1 Shift (5 day traditional schedule) for Trucks
• Plant has ran production a total of 12 Saturdays this year, in addition the SUV System has also ran production on 2 Sundays
• Plant is also scheduled to run production on Saturday October 9th, October 23rd, and November 6th, 2010 in the Truck System
• 40 members recently transferred to the Chicago Assembly Plant / Chicago Stamping Plant
• 5 members recently transferred to the Rouge Facility
• Plant has not yet received an official new product announcement
• Line speed in the Truck System – 62.4 jobs per hour, SUV System – 64.5 jobs per hour
• Plant Population – Production 3249, Skilled Trades 451
Local 551 - Chicago Assembly Plant – Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS, and Ford Explorer; Production – 40 hour weekly work schedule with 1
Crew (4X10 AWS)
• During the second week of October 2010 the plant will begin running two production shifts
• The launch of the Ford Explorer is expected to be in full operation on 11/01/2010 (Job #1)
• During 2011 Chicago Assembly Plant will begin production of the Police Interceptor (Sedan & SUV versions)
• U.S. President Barack Obama and UAW Vice-President Jimmy Settles recently visited the plant
• The Police Advisory Board also recently toured the facility
• Plant Population - 2171
Local 862 – Louisville Assembly Plant – Ford Explorer (4 door), Sport Trac, and Mercury Mountaineer; Production - 40 hour weekly work
schedule with 1 Crew (4X10 AWS) running 57 jobs per hour
• Plant is currently working mandatory Fridays until 11/10/2010
• Since 2009 the plant has sent 425 productions employees to the Kentucky Truck Plant, 129 to Chicago Assembly Plant, and will
be sending 28 more to the Chicago Stamping Plant on 11/01/2010 (18) and 11/08/2010 (10)
• 556 members at the Kentucky Truck Plant have recall rights to the Louisville Assembly Plant
• The Mountaineer is balancing out 09/28/2010, the Sport Trac on 10/29/2010, and the Explorer on 12/16/2010
• The membership is waiting for the Company to officially announce the new products that will be assembled at LAP
• The Bargaining Committee is working on a business case that supports hiring additional Skilled Trades employees before July
2011, currently need Skilled Trades employees for the 2nd shift as soon as possible
• Facility tear out and retooling bid meetings have already started
• Plant Population – 1068
Local 862 – Kentucky Truck Plant – Ford F-Series Super Duty Trucks, Ford Expedition (all versions), and Lincoln Navigator
(all versions); Final Area Production - 45 hour weekly work schedule with 2 Shifts (5 day traditional schedule),
Body & Paint Production - 40 hour weekly work schedule with 3 Shifts (5 day traditional schedule)
• Launched the 2011 Expedition / Navigator on 08/16/2010
• Recently hosted U.S. Congressman John Yarmuth who toured the facility, visited with employees, and viewed new model
vehicles produced at the plant
• Had a recent visit from the UAW National Department concerning / coaching Continuous Improvement
• Running 42 jobs per hour on Final Line 1, and 45 jobs per hour on Final Line 2
• 15 members recently transferred to the Chicago Assembly Plant / Chicago Stamping Plant
• 3 members recently transferred to the Rouge Facility
• Leadership is currently debating with the Company over FMLA regulation issues
• Plant Population – Production 3349, Skilled Trades 465

Local 879 – Twin Cities Assembly Plant – Ford Ranger; Production - 40 hour weekly work schedule with 1
Crew (4X10 AWS) running 49.9 jobs per hour
• Assembly Plant is scheduled to close in the last quarter of 2011
• Reported the State of Minnesota recently met with the Ford Motor Company on 08/25/2010 in an effort to avoid closure of the
plant, however the Company still maintains the position of idling the facility
• 30 members transferred to the Chicago Assembly Plant / Chicago Stamping Plant in August 2010
• Leadership is looking at changing the shift pattern of Skilled Trades employees to a 4X12 shift pattern, they are currently in
discussions and they realize a tremendous savings for the plant with this proposal
• Plant Population – 750
Local 900 – Wayne Assembly Plant – Ford Focus; Production - 40 hour weekly work schedule with 2 shifts (5 day traditional
schedule)
• Reached a Local Agreement, waiting on Wayne Stamping Plant leadership to finalize their local agreement
• Reported that there is a possible down week in early December 2010, currently trying to negotiate for the down week to occur the
week before the Christmas Holidays
• Job #1 is scheduled to begin on 01/03/2011
• Currently dealing with material shortages
• Plant Population – Production 1568, Skilled Trades 243 with 8 Apprentices
Local 900 – Wayne Stamping Plant – Production - 40 hour weekly work schedule with 3 Shifts (5 day traditional schedule)
• Reported the launch of the 2012 C-346 product build is going well
• Job #1 is scheduled to begin on 01/03/2011
• Currently training electricians on the new equipment
• Overtime is at a very minimum
• Currently in Local Agreement negotiations
• Plant Population – Production 840, Skilled Trades 351 with 3 Apprentices
Local 2000 – Ohio Assembly Plant - Ford Econoline Van; Production - 40 hour weekly work schedule with 2 Crews (4X10
AWS) running 33.5 jobs per hour
• Reported that 12 members recently transferred to the Chicago Assembly Plant, and that 3 more will be transferring to the
Chicago Assembly Plant on 10/04/2010
• Reported that 10 members will be transferring to Chicago Stamping Plant in November 2010
• Reported that 5 members transferred to the Rouge Facility on 09/27/2010
• Reported that supervision doesn't want to provide early and over coverage when Skilled Trades employees are on vacation or
personal leave
• Tentative down week scheduled for the week beginning 11/29/2010
• Tension level is high because there is no future product commitment for the plant at this time
• Plant Population – Production 1416, Skilled Trades 266, Members on loan to other locations 137
Local 3000 – AAI Flat Rock Assembly Plant - Ford Mustang, and Mazda 6; Production – 40 hour weekly work schedule with 1 Shift (5 day
traditional schedule) running 68 jobs per hour
• On 07/12/2010 went to 68 jobs per hour because of the elimination of the B-Crew production shift.
• Reported that on 09/07/2010 the plant operating pattern changed back to a 5X8 traditional work schedule
• Reported that on 08/02/2010 the leadership finalized a Tag Relief Letter of Understanding
• Secured 36 additional Team Leaders positions and avoided tag relief in the Body Shop and Stamping Department
• Plant Population – Production 1406, Skilled Trades 194
Other Points of Interest
During the Sub Council II meeting that was held on September 30th Scott Eskridge was elected by the Council to be one of the
National Negotiators for the upcoming 2011 Contract Negotiations. Royce Epperson was also elected to the 2011 National Resolutions
Committee for Sub Council II.
