collective bargining is socialism = our wages and benefit, uaw is a form of socialism , that why the republicans HATE union. and i guess you didnt collect unemployment the last 2 years right ? what do you mean about ss and medicare i collected unemployment. my employer gave it to the state while i worked (a direct employment cost) for me to draw upon losing my job. wouldnt it have been better to get that money directly from my empolyer as i worked in order to save for myself??? SSI is the same thing, we put in a ton of money and get back pennies. WITHOUT SSI, we could all retire and be very wealthy AND have that money to leave to our families.

Without SSI our employers would make that much more profit. If the law changed tomorrow it would not result in raises for anyone except corporations.

The Social Security program has a long history with many changes. It was originally intended for widows and orphans, people who needed help the most. The working class gave a small percentage of thier wage to help these fellow Americans. Over several decades we Americans have let the program morph into this huge debt that everyone in America seems to be entitled to, even if they aren't in dire need. www.ssa.gov/history/

Over several decades OUR CONGRESSMEN AND WOMEN have let the program morph into this huge debt that NOT everyone in America seems to be entitled to, even if they aren't in dire need. www.ssa.gov/history/ Fixed it for you. Neither you, or myself had/has a say in where SSI goes to. One of the news programs on SIRIUS was talking about how a large amount of our SSI money is going to illegal aliens anchor children who are born here in the US.

The past 10 years have been pitiful for both parties, in putting forth the best candidates. I was a registered democrat until two years ago and switched to the Independent party because I felt that the Libs were destroying our country faster then the GOP. There are no true Democrats running for office anymore. The ones who do run have no interest in us.

The Social Security system is inadequate for todays United States, so many people are recieving benefits that never contributed, people that have more than adequate income still get it also. Our society was founded on equality and justice for all, yet that very premise has led to a nation of slackers, willing to do what ever it takes to get something free in life. I don't have an answer for this complex problem. The latest campaign promises of balancing the budget will have to address, Defense, Social Security, and Medicare/Medicade. Where should we cut first?

Air Pelosi Ends
There’s been a lot of controversy about the expense of and use of military aircraft to get Speakers of the House around in recent years — especially when Nancy Pelosi asked for an upgrade (and because she’s a she). That is apparently about to end. Presumptive Speaker Boehner just told reporters he’s flown commercial for 20 years and will continue to do so as Speaker.
