US: New V8 diesels to surface in 2011 By: John Mortimer, Friday, January 07, 2011, AutomotiveWorld.com
Rumours abound in the US that two ‘doomed’ diesel engines will come to life in 2011.Cummins is set to supply 5.0-litre V8 diesel engines to Chrysler for fitment to the Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up, while General Motors will bring to life its 4.5-litre Duramax V8 diesel for pick-up use.
Dodge Ram dealers are mystified that a 2011 5.0-litre Ram 1500 with a two-mode hybrid transmission has appeared in their vehicle ordering system. Sources suggest that while the Ram 1500 was not officially cancelled, neither has Chrysler officially committed to it.
In 2009, during Chrysler’s bankruptcy proceedings, a Cummins spokesman admitted that while Chrysler’s initial contract with Cummins was dead, the programme itself had not died, suggesting Cummins was still working on the engine programme.
The new Duramax V8 is reportedly heading for some GM pick-ups as well as possible large-car applications. The engine can improve fuel economy by 25% and CO2 by 13%. The engine reputedly delivers 310bhp and 520lb ft torque.
Both Cummins’s 4.5-litre V8 and GM’s Duramax turbocharged diesel engines feature compacted graphite iron (CGI) cylinder blocks

Great news, look for Ford to follow suit, which extends the life of the Expy and Nav now for a 4.4 ford diesel ...

Just what I hope. Ford is already producing the 4.4-litre V8 at the Chihuahua-plant beside the 6.7-litre. Currently they are only exporting it to Land Rover in small numbers. The capacity at the plant is said to be more than 10 timer bigger. Navigator, Expedition and F-150 would be great with this bullet proof V8

What would this do to superduty sales?

Ford has recently confirmed in a local newspaper that its Chihuahua Engine Plant (CEP) in Mexico will produce over 750,000 diesel engines a year.
According to plant manager, Enrique Araiza, CEP's new Plant 11 facility has capacity to assemble 400,000 of Ford's 4.4-litre V8 diesel engines a year, as well as 200,000upa of the 6.7-litre V8 diesel.
Both engines are completely new and make use of compacted graphite iron (CGI) cylinder blocks.
I think that the 6.7-litre is at it´s limit with those selling numbers.

What would this do to superduty sales? Nothing....people buying SD are buying the vehicle because they have a need for the heavier payload. The 5.4 is available in SD, 150, Expy, and Nav.....A diesel motor in a liter payload vehicle will improve fuel mileage, but if a person needs the payload they still need a SD

Is Cummins going to produce anything for Ford? My son is an outside electrician retooling the plant in Colmbus and Cummins is telling them one of the new lines will be for Ford. Why would Cummins tell them that?

When Ford puts a diesel in the F150, we will see some decrease in Super Duty sales. Not everybody needs a heavy truck, but they like the diesels in them.

Is Cummins going to produce anything for Ford? My son is an outside electrician retooling the plant in Colmbus and Cummins is telling them one of the new lines will be for Ford. Why would Cummins tell them that? Ford puts some Cummins engines in the heavy trucks. Like the F650 and F750 etc. If I remember right Cummins only gives them a certain allotment per year. If I am wrong someone please correct me.
