As many as 30 cars of a freight train derailed in eastern Jefferson County late Friday night near the Oldham County line.
No one was hurt, and all the cars were reported to be empty, according to a MetroSafe Communications supervisor.
A train of about 85 cars was traveling on the rail line near the intersection of Chamberlain Lane and La Grange Road when the derailment occurred around 10:30 p.m., and some cars fell on their side, the supervisor said.
The cause of the derailment wasn’t known immediately.

Reminds me of my favorite poem that applies to the Scheduling department: I don't get to drive the train or even ring the bell.. but let the damn thing jump the tracks and see who catches hell.

Yep. Some go out by semi and some go out on rail cars. How do they do it in KC? They are transported by truck to the local dealerships. The ones that get shipped by train are moved to a big rail yard a couple miles away.

The ones that get shipped by train are moved to a big rail yard a couple miles away. The tracks go right into the plant property. We also have it so the parts trains come into the plant. We have two trains inside the plant now. We used to have one in the Body Shop but they took that one out a few years ago. Now we have one between the body shop and frame lines and one between the frame lines and engine line.

Both LAP and KTP have multiple railheads running right into the plant.
It's one of the things that help make both plants very profitable.

We have a few trains that come in to bring parts...mostly body shop and engine lines stuff. But, we don't load directly to trains. At least not yet. That is another one of the many rumors. The property goes almost to the rail yard they are transferd to now. Rumor is they wanna build a rail line and load the vehicles directly to the train.

They used to load trucks onto trains at the lot that faces Westport Rd. Unless it has changed in the last few years.

We drive the trucks off the end of the cal line and take them thru the sqweak and rattle test. Outside people then drive them down to the train, but I don't know the name of the company.

Years ago we had multi-level jobs in St.Louis were we loaded vehicles directly on the trains on the assembly plant property, then the jobs were out sourced. I am at KCAP now and they don't have a rail line to directly load the vehicles on trains.
