I was told today that every flywheel on the diesel engines have to be changed. Whoever makes them in canada didnt heat treat them right and the teeth are ripping off. not sure how many but some customers has had it happened. Just what i was told.

Maybe he is saying maintenance saw vendor reps doing the rework. That sounds much more believable...engines come in complete...the vendor has the right to send people to do the rework.

Are they changing out the part fast enough to keep the engine line running? Are they running a heavy gas mix?

Well, I worked in IQ for almost 2 years...and a majority of the time, there were sorters from the vendors in the plant fixing their mistakes. If we fix them, they pay much more...Ford gives them a chance to come in and fix their error at a much cheaper rate if they can. Many vendors don't have the ability...so we get stuck doing it.

I was off Friday so I am not sure if this rumor is true, though I know we did have 1 flywheel in warranty. Lets hope that is the only one out there.
Depending on what motor. The people working them most likely where Ford employees since most of our motors come from Ford plants.
Scott is right. Vendors are allowed to rework a part til it is stocked our line. They have to do it in certain areas. Please notify us of anyone that is working parts on the line, on on the stock next to the line. We will run them off for you.
I will try to get more info.

Heard last night that they narrowed it down to parts from India there are about 900 that must be changed. It take about 4 hrs for each flywheel. I see lots of overtime for Repairman.

Strange that they are not making them in compacted graphite iron ( CGI) which is the material in the bulletproof engine block. CGI-flywheels is coming. No teeth will ripe off then.
