ok, i'm utility/coverage and they were trying to add work to one of the jobs in my area. the super was watching employee they were trying to add the work to and he kept falling behind thus shutting us down....so the super comes to me and tells me that in addition to the work i was doing on the job i was on, he also wanted me to go to help the employee they were trying to add the work to....i said, hey, i'm doing the work and job that i'm supposed to be doing today and he said again that he wanted me to go help, so i called union office, had rep paged..he showed up within 10 minutes...he has a pissed off look on his face as he walks up to me and says, "didn't i tell you not to ever call for me..i come by here every day and you don't need to call for me."....i stood there with my mouth ajar..like wtf?...then i told him the super was trying to get me to do work on another job that they were adding work to and i was already covering a job.......union rep told me..."yea, you have to do what he tells you"......again..wtf?....am i wrong to think that this is the upmost bulls#$t!!??

Punisher, I am not sure but until the work has been added to your sheet that management swears by do you really need to worry about that crap. I would put this question to TonyV and see what he says.

Scott is 100% correct.....they'll find someone who is "scared" to do anything and that will do the work so they can add it. As for what you should do? I personally would laugh in the face of said "super".

what area do you work ? first of all you should have done what you were told to do, help your brother and then bury both jobs. what can they do to you ? write you up ? no its not on your jsa/qps sheet so no write up....its always best to keep your cool,do what they say ,and bury your foot up their a$$, and say "i am trying my best boss " if your committee person cant get you out of that' then i would only have barg. at your hearings.

Punisher, you know you can write that union Rep up to the international union for not represent you right. I forgot what article you file, cause that kind of shit is uncalled for.

You asked for opinions...so here ya go. The union rep that told you this should definitely be questioned! However, those of us reading your post don't know the whole story, and I'm not sure I believe it myself. I know the Tire Room pretty well. Well enough to know that there are no jobs that can "have work" added to them. Kinda like when the U-side added the stem process with wheel load. Some tried to fight it, and others did not. That is why you now have to do both. Therefore my opinion would be to "learn how to play the game" with supervision, and don't bring your vagina to work with you!

Like buckeyeinky says, tell them your doing the best you can and watch them scramble. Also the rep cannot tell you to not do the work added. You do have to do some things yourself. (like showing it cant be done) I've fought jobs and know the scare tactics they use bothers some, but as long as your moving at a continuous pace and not reading the paper, they really cant do anything but try to move it to some other operation.

I agree with everyone about stay calm & say I'll do the best I can, then bury it. I have fought several jobs this way & it works 99% of the time. On the other hand the union rep should be fired from being a rep if he really told you to never call him, that is total nonsense.

Sure the rep cannot tell you to not to do the work ...but he can watch you fall behind on the job and then tell Management that he witnessed that "you can't hold the job" then proceed to tell them to "GET THE FUCK OFF YOUR BACK"....but that won't happen because we have No Reps that have "BALLS"

well dieselfan.....the job in question was the u-side wheel load and it was when they added stemming....and the regular operator wasn't holding the job, so nothing was going out of tire room.....and you say there are "no jobs" that can have work added to them then how the hell do you explain them "adding" stemming the wheels to the u-side wheel load?.....maybe i'm way off here but that sure seems alot like adding work to a job....duh.....you've gotta be an original ktp'er...with that good ole motto..."lay in there and get it".......agreed 30yearpace...no balls....i remember when they tried to add work to a job at lap, they would get you off the job, explain what they were adding and what they may or may not be taking off the job...then they would have someone back you up when they added the work to see if it could be done....i NEVER took on any work...and NEVER will...doin it bass-ackwards at ktp!

They made that change on U wheels over 5 months ago. Now all of a sudden there's a problem? I agree, Stemming should not have been added. However, when 2 other operators won't fight it, there's not much argument. They will always say " if he/she can do it, why can't you". There is strength in unity and a committee man cannot fix that.

This is the time of year that management trys to eliminate jobs. Most reps won't help you at all and it's up to you to milk the job so your team won't loose it.

Reps that wont help you are not reps, I'll bet if you were fired for awols or drinking on the job they would help you.

However, when 2 other operators won't fight it, there's not much argument. They will always say " if he/she can do it, why can't you". There is strength in unity and a committee man cannot fix that. What the committe person can do is find out if the other shifts are overworking the job then ask them to please follow the QPS sheets on every detail. He can also tell them what is going on "hey it's looks like they might be adding some work here to eliminate another job" This might give the other shifts some incentive to follow the QPS sheets more closely. From my experience most people are scared to take a stand because of the Reps not stepping up and being OUTSPOKEN IN WORKING AREAS IN FRONT OF SUPERVISORS. We need to know there are people behind us backing us up including the Reps. Our reps need to ORGANIZE US not leave us to stand alone. Also if a Rep witnesses someone that can't hold the jobs he/she needs to tell the supervisor in front of the operator with the supervisor present "Hey man this job has too much work on it and my advise would be to lesson the work or get another person to help". Right now most supervisors are pressing us to do more work with less people and we need Reps to support us and in some cases hold our hands to save these jobs.
