Don't have the numbers in front of me, but historically the top managers CEO's of American corporations make SEVERAL TIMES more than their European and Asian counterparts.....
Not just more, BUT SEVERAL TIMES MORE!
Amercian CEO pay is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY higher than the competition.

I remember reading that Toyota's top execs received about $1 million a year total compensation...our top dog is getting about $100 million. LOL But Marcus, most Toyota assemblers make a little more on the hour than we do...to simply keep the union out. If they made $6-7 less an hour than us, it would be easy to get the union in there.

That's right Scott.
If we drop our wages and benefits more. So will they. The transplants will always be lower than us, but only enough just to keep the union out.

In the 90's there was a BIG Newsweek issue on Executive pay and outsourcing of jobs.
Basically, the more a top exec cut costs by shipping jobs overseas, the more money he made.
Close a couple of mills in the Midwest, ship the work to China, put thousands of Americans out of work...........and get record compensation.
Face it guys, there's no ideology here, but the wealthiest Americans often get wealthier by making people like you and me poorer.........
Income gap keeps widening, yet working class jobs keep disappearing.........odd isn't it?

With the discussions of unions as in life you will always have good points and bad points in the union. Yes, the union protects our members from just being fired for no reason at all. Just this past week, an employee of Ford who works in the office as a workers comp rep was let go after being there for 20 years. They fired this person over the phone and gave no good reason for this. I put this in here, " food for thought".

i feel its important to point something out. we cost $6 more an hour than toyota. that doesnt mean we make $6 more. there are some built in operating expenses at ford that toyota doesnt have. read between the lines on that one.
i dont know why toyota would fire people just before retirement. they have no pension, whats the point? sounds like a line of "look what we do for you" bullshit to me.lot of that going on lately. excuses and rhetoric are a sad substitute for results.
about ceo bonuses for outsourcing. you have to wonder why the govt has let this go on.the outsourcing i mean. this type of thing really started around the end of the vietnam war and has continued ever since, democrat or republican admin alike. service sector grows, manufacturing declines.
the ceos are just playing the game. the govt writes the rules. if we dont change our trade policies we are fucked. bobner touched on how important foreign markets are in that stupid video we watched. trade must be adjusted in a way that allows foreign markets to open to us goods. what we have already lost isnt likely to come back. we must protect and grow what we still have.

Yes, I will confirm that toyota at least attempts to fire some of their employees when they get close to retirement. I have a friend that works there that has told me that. I have also been told that when an employee at toyota does retire, that their retirement is paid by the Japanees gov't. I will check into that.

My brother has worked at Toyota for around 20 years, they make almost the same an hour that we do, very close. They get more bonuses than we do, they get vacation days etc. Their health ins is very comparable to ours. As far as retirement I'm pretty sure its a matching 401k. They can fire easier but according to my brother they still have to go through a process to do it, some kind of board where the company & your peers both have to make the decision. I'm sure the process is manipulated from time to time just like anywhere else including Ford.

They should have fired the BITCH...we all know who that is!

a 401k is not a pension. a pension pays you for life,be that 2 days or 50 years.a 401k pays you until theres no money left. its a savings account with different tax rules. im sure toyota tries to fire all the people they think need to be fired, regardless of length of service.
