REPOST from Blue oval.... www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/43496-lap-skilled-trades/I am a state licensed journeyman and was wondering how to sign up for an opening at lap. I have been here at ford for over 13 years and still can't get any union committee person to write a grievance. Why should I have to go through the grievance procedure to get a job I am more than qualified for? How many yearts of due paying does it take to get fair representation? Does any one know who I can call in the international; to be placed at the top of the testying list before they test and hire people off of the street and then tell me "oh I'm sorry the jobs are full we will have to get you next time". I have been waiting 13 years for the company to start hiring. Getting too old to wait another 13 years for a skilled job.

RE POST From Blue oval ESKRIDGE YOU MAY WANT TO READ THIS www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/43496-lap-skilled-trades/First....... you can only be considered for skilled trades jobs in your plant when an opening is available, since you did not hire in as a tradesman Second....... you would not be considered or offered a job if there are any people in that trade in or out of zone that are laid off. They would be asked first, once again since they hold the status of journeyman already and have rights. Third... if there was no one laid off company wide and still a need, then they would look at apprentices that were in the system in that plant or in or out of zone. They might want to wait until they turn out to give the job to them, once again because they are already classified in that trades and have rights. Fourth.... In the next contract trades will be combined. They will need less and might even lay-off more....which would put them before you. Fifth... If you do hold a license in that trade you have to have at least five years of on the job experience and be able to prove it with W2's. This is full time not part time.If your time was while you were working for ford its hard to say you worked 2 full time jobs. Sixth... I hope you understand all this and if you don't 'I'm sorry if you don't agree .In the last 13 years you have been crying, there have to have been journeyman tests at your plant. I question why you did not take them. If you say you did, I wonder why you didn't make the cut of the highest scores ? I'm sorry this is harsh, but you come off like you are owed something? You hired in on the line. You were not picked for trades because of the process listed above. After reading my post, read yours again. Listen how you come across to tradesman who have been laid for years, like myself waiting for ANY opportunity...even LAP. Oh ya, I love the part when you say" can I get put at the top of the list" !!! Best of luck! Your pal forever.....UAWFACTORYRAT

When taking the skilled trades test, it no longer matters how high you score. It is a pass/fail grade, then they go in senority order to fill openings in the apprentice program. Last time test was given at my orginal plant (AAP) was 2000. I think it is possible to get hired strait in to a skilled trade if you already are a journeyman, but I am not sure about the specifics.

Well the way it's worked in the past is.... In the early / mid ninety's Ford needed a bunch of journeyman, because they had lost so many to retirement etc and it had been a while since they put on any apprentice's... So need forced them to hire journeyman from the out side. Ford went to great lengths to set up a evaluation test for journeyman applicants....The test was three parts, 6 hr aptitude test, another 3hr hands on test with print reading, and a interview / evaluation from Ford HR.... As the need for Journeyman subsided Ford started putting on apprentice's again.... As a rule, the UAW like's to promote from the line based on test score because it's like a reward to get off that line....The UAW likes to see great success stories and no better success than getting off that line. Now from what I've seen at KTP, the apprentice promotion thing has gone by the way side, KTP likes to find journeyman working production and promote them....Promoting jman from the line at the expense of proper call back rights and / to the exclusion of potential apprentice's..... I'll shorten this post and start another not to bore everyone

That's really what this post is about, the union agreed with the company and pulled a couple of pool workers from the line and assigned them to work in maintenance in Final. The story I hear is some inspections on equipment weren't getting done, and because there is a no overtime rule from the plant management they decided to bring in pool workers? Never mind the fact that people on layoff through out the ford system have first recall rights (in zone out of zone) or people reduced out of trades through out ford have recall rights or production people on trades list have rights....We will side step that and bring on temporary people out of line with the contract requirements......
The first post at top of this topic is similar situation off blue oval Democracy in action it's a good thing, won't find it in any other union
