I'll try to make this simple: You own an apple orchard. Kroger orders 100 apples. You have 100 apples in your basket. Meijer orders 200 apples. You now have 300 apples in your basket. You ship Krogers 100 apples but receive an order from Piggly Wiggly for 200 apples. How many apples are in your basket now? 400? If you didn't ship Kroger's apples, would your basket have...500? So how many apples have been ordered and how many are in your basket? Until you ship your apple orders, your basket appears to be getting fuller. When actually, it's getting fuller of non-shipped but already ordered apples. You count your apples in your basket until you ship them and can no longer count them as being ordered but DELIVERED. In summation: If you don't ship your apples, any orders for MORE apples makes it look like your basket has more apples in it than there really are. If your apple orders exceed your apple shipments, then your basket has more in it, but you must subtract the number of apples already ordered but not yet shipped. Since once they are shipped they are no longer in your basket. Tomorrow, we will discuss oranges.
