Union Meeting Minutes
March 8, 2011
UAW Hall Fern Valley Road
KTP Chairman Report
• Order Bank: Super Duty-42,616 units; Expedition-9,731 units and Navigator-1,768 units
• KTP is on a schedule of 1,380 units per day off the chassis lines. March 26, 2011, is a
mandatory production Saturday.
• William Clay Ford scholarship applications will be ready April 15, 2011. The enrollment
period is May 1, 2011, through July 31, 2011. This is for students that are classified as
sophomores for the 2011 fall semester. The 2010 scholarship was $1500.00 for 25% of
the applicants. Contact Mark Baker for applications at ext.2688.
• We do not have a date as to when employees can return to LAP from KTP. This decision
is at Vice President Jimmy Settle’s level. His office is trying to get the Ford Motor
Company to commit to the number of employees that the Kansas City Assembly plant will
need to operate. Once this number is determined then all employees with RTBU and
“Transfer of Operation” rights will move simultaneously.
• We also discussed the option of KTP transferring to LAP after the hierarchy has been
exhausted. The International Union and LAP union leadership both support this and will
discuss this possibility with the company.
• The company has until April 1, 2011, to notify us of vacation shutdown. We are still in
talks trying to get the company to invest in the body and paint shops to increase their
capacity. This will allow the final area to run 10 hours Monday through Friday. If this
investment happens then we should have both weeks of shutdown consecutively in July.
If this does not happen there is a possibility that the week of July 4, 2011, will be our only
vacation shutdown week. If this is the scenario we are in discussions with KTP
management on what opportunities will be given to employees to use their remaining
vacation hours.
• There are currently three relief jobs up for bid in the body shop. There will also be two
additional paint relief jobs added per shift. The company is currently surveying employees
with recall rights. After the survey if any positions are open, they will be posted for bid.
• The GFCPA jobs were created approximately two years ago at KTP as a result of
discussions between the UAW local leadership and KTP management. These jobs were
placed in the sub system classification. The success of these jobs got the attention of the
International Union who then worked to have these jobs implemented in all Ford plants.
The jobs were given the title of GFCPA and a joint selection process was created at the
International level. This selection process was sent to all plants and made the process
uniform across the system. At KTP we had ten employees that were “grandfathered” into
these positions, but there were still seven openings that were determined by the joint
selection process. We took the top 30 senior applicants and put them through the
process and the employees selected were posted.
• We will take resolutions for the local negotiations during the months of April and May.
LAP Chairman’s Report
• Currently have an ongoing grievance fighting outside contracting. It has been heard at
the Regional level and is currently in the hands of International one step from the D-1
process.
• It is a fight to get our trades to work on the weekends. Currently there are no contractors
working on the weekends.
• Steve bragged on the great work that the trades have been doing on the retooling of the
plant.
• The pilot plant is two weeks behind now, but this is nothing big. The trim people have
been scheduled 10 hours to get caught up.
• TT build will be in July.
• PP build will be October 3, 2011; everyone should be back by that time. RTBU and
“Transfer of Operations” people will start returning in late August and September.
• Talked about working with KTP to get the RTBU people signed up and also to get the
rights for KTP people to transfer.
• Asked everyone to wear red on Wednesday to show solidarity.
• Steve Stone has tickets to the Mid American truck show.
• There are still 200-250 bid jobs open.
• When filing for unemployment do not claim the profit sharing for that week.
• COT house painter will happen, but not until after the equipment has been brought in and
set up. The COT will paint the floors and items on the floors. The trades will paint
anything suspended.
