The Democratic spin is that the elderly will starve, 32 million will die from lack of health insurance, children will grow up without educations; women and children will die horrible and painful deaths; puppies and kittens will be mercilessly killed, and hell on earth will descend upon America. The Republican spin is that our country is drowning in unsustainable debt and to save everyone in it, we have to tighten our belts and cut spending. You cannot tax your way to prosperity. You have to create a tax base with jobs. A hostile environment for the employers in Washington will send jobs elsewhere.
The Republicans on the other hand have not changed their agenda either. Recent events have only strengthened their resolve to attack the working class.
I feel the time is here to see new ideas on the political front. Maybe another party in the middle that truly represents middle America. (Good Luck with that)
Otherwise, I see the U.S. sliding into the English (Great Britain) partisan ways of hiding from the citizens that they are no longer the super power. Why pass the torch to China or India this century?
I would hope the U.S. is better than what is being represented right now.

Great post Tony, both sides have serious issues. Everytime a legit Independent candidate arises they are attacked by both of the other parties! It is time for a new political party....
Middle Class American Workers
MCAW will represent the vast majority of Americans, every gender, race and age. Details of exact credo and where to send campaign contributions coming soon.

Here is a prime example of neither side for the average working man: Did you know the Home mortgage deduction is under attack? The gang of six which includes 3 Republicans and 3 Democrats want to eliminate the home mortgage interest deduction. They are: Republicans Saxby Chambliss, Mike Crapo and Tom Coburn and Democrats Kent Conrad, Dick Durbin and Mark Warner. What are these politicians thinking? Do they not realize this is the middle classes most important tax deduction? Do they not know that the housing market is in the gutter as it is? Do they not know that the housing market accounts for %15 of America's GDP? Do they not know that every new home built America creates 3 permanent full time jobs? They should also leave off trying to raise the cap on taxable social security earnings. Whatever you do today, please take 5 minutes and call them now. Call them now and at 202-225-3121 tell them to leave our home mortgage interest deduction alone. You can also visit www.savemymortgageinterestdeduction.com/showpage_details.aspx?showpageID=4379for more info.

The old stereotypes of Dems being "Liberal" and Repubs being "Conservative" hardly seem to fit the average middle class Americans values anymore....

Marcus a tax rate reduction allows someone to keep more of their own money not someone else's. Rolltide is right, it does not take money from our pockets and put it into theirs. But it does make the nonexempt bear the burden of paying for the government. Everyone needs to contribute their share to paying for the government. Exempting some causes a bigger difference in relative wealth. In this case, allowing the rich to get wealthier at a faster pace than the rest of us. Call it redistribution, welfare, thievery, or the robin hood concept or whatever you want, this is a prime example of fellow “citizens” not paying their share. scottrlap.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=election&action=display&thread=9806

Hey bo who's not paying their share 47% of american households do not pay ant Fed income tax while the top 2% pay almost half now about corp. that dont pay taxes check to see how much they gave to Obamas campaign like GE.Besides Corps dont really pay taxes anyway their customers do because it is an expense factored into the price of their products. Bring on the Fair Tax.

“Hey bo who's not paying their share 47% of american households do not pay ant Fed income tax” rolltide Great point, 47% of this country earns so little money that they do not have to pay taxes under the current policy. Good example of the wealth gap in America. I’m guessing most of these are under the poverty line right? “while the top 2% pay almost half” rolltide The top 1% earns 42.7% of income in the U.S. ( sociology.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/wealth.html ) if you broke down the next 1%, and added them the top 2% income would have well over 50%. Yet they pay less than half of the nations taxes… In my view a “fair share” is not taxing a family of 4, that has an income at the poverty line of $22,350 ( aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/11fedreg.shtml ), at 17%; the same as you would a corporate ceo that makes 80 million. It is not reasonable to ask a family of 4 to live on $18,850 net pay a year. “Bring on the Fair Tax.” rolltide I agree with a fair tax. Being that your posts have supported most conservative ideologies, I assume you mean the “flat" tax… the one that puts a larger burden on the lower income brackets and lowers the taxes of those that need the breaks the least?

bo the fair tax is not the same as the flat tax i agree with you that the flat tax would be better for some and worst for others. The fair tax emliminates all Fed. income and payroll taxes personal and corparate and replaces them with a 23% national sales tax! just think about all the money U.S. corps will bring back to the states and the jobs that will be produced if this happens, not to metion all of the foreign investments that would roll in.
