Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Bargaining Committee and I have been asked by many #3 shift employees if the work schedule could be altered to allow as many people as possible to watch the NCAA championship game. Due to the large number of employees making this request we have come to an agreement with management to alter the work schedule. There will be a change of work schedule for the #3 Final Area shift on Monday April 2, 2012. The #3 shift start time will be moved to 2:30 pm and the lunch and last break will be on the end of the shift. This will result in the #3 shift Final area being finished at 9:00 pm. Anyone on #3 Final area shift with child care issues and not able to make the early start should let their supervisor and committeeperson know immediately so that possible accommodations can be made. If accommodations cannot be made this will not exclude the employee from the start time of 2:30 pm. This accommodation will not affect the contractual 8 hour shift prior to Easter Holiday on Thursday April 5, 2012. The vacation shutdown period for 2012 will be the one week of July 2, 2012. Any December eligible employee can now schedule 40 hours vacation which otherwise would have been required for vacation shutdown during the months of April and May as the calendar allows. If an employee chooses not to schedule the additional week they may receive the 40 hours pay in lieu at the end of the eligibility period. In Solidarity, Scott Eskridge

notice Body, Paint and Stamping dont get these "accomodations." And how many people who care less about the game are going to be negatively affected? Real piece of work.

Let me get this straight. The company and union change an entire production shift so the employees can watch a basketball game and people are not happy.
You know....
When you complain about everything, eventually no one hears any of it.

It says the second 40 hours that is usually reserved for shutdown is no longer locked and can be used as early as April and May by Dec eligible people. You hearing something else?

Yea u can use it for april or may but I already have another week for 15 yrs.And I cant put in for anything past june.Even though I could have put in for dates after june back in dec. ??ALSO HEARD FROM A SOURCE THAT THEY CAN CUT OUT 2 WEEKS NEXT YEAR IF THEY WANT.NOTHING IN WRITING SAYING THEY HAVE TO SHUT DOWN EVERY YEAR FOR 2 WEEKS.SO IM GUESSIN NEXT YEAR THE PEOPLE WITH LESS THAN 15 YEARS WILL ONLY GET 60HRS VAC. TIME....THEY CAN DO THAT.

Once again it appears that the concept of a union, is lost on the people that should be most aware of it. If you can't accommodate EVERYBODY, then you don't make special arrangements for ANYBODY! What a bunch of, aw, what's the use. Typical day in the neighborhood. F paint and body B crew. Will C crew be allowed to come in late? The game more than likely wont be done by 11.

From what I am hearing, about 240 from final said that they would not be coming in on Monday. I guess this is the solution.

I agree that's bullshit, the union always looks out for the ones who AWOL. Let the 240 miss work cause of a basketball game , then you fire every single one of them for disruption of production. Tornado comes through and you keep working, a basketball game comes on and you have meetings to decide how to cater to the ones who won't show up!

Same here. A ball game doesn't pay the bills. Your JOB does. People need to get their priorities straight.

I guess everybody in paint and body should have asked for the day off too that way they would have changed your work schedule.

I guess they surveyed them team leaders again, I didn't get asked LOL. Seriously though, I don't care about the game at all. I won't even watch it, not quite my cup of tea but I do like the idea of getting out of there early though. I don't like the idea of possibly losing money because some people take this crap too damn serious. It is just a ball game, have the for sight to request the day off or just AWOL don't make the rest of us lose money because of the game. Also, why would they put in the letter "If you have trouble securing child care let the supervisor know as soon as possible, remember even if you do not secure child care you STILL HAVE TO SHOW UP AT START TIME 2:30". Really? Did anyone ever think that people WILL have trouble securing child care BECAUSE people will be watching the game and getting drunk.
Sometimes I am ashamed to belong to such an unorganized group.

Having day shift individuals stay over to cover a couple of hours until people make it in. Then again, this opens another can of whining and crying. Sounds like a bunch of women who just aren't happy unless there is something to bitch about.

If the system stays the way it is Body and Paint may still get off early with Trim not pulling after 9. Time will tell. But I still think its rediculous.

Another reason it's bullshit, so what you can't get child care you need to come in cause we are helping everyone that would AWOL out. I'm sure if you don't come in and say its cause of child care your probably going to get time off for disruption of production, that's just how the system works.

yall have to know that its just about trying to get trucks out, right? body can be down for a long time but if final runs, its still a good day.final is where the money is made each day. thats where production counts are. ya cant just fire everyone that awols that night either. thats just stupid. think of the cost of fighting all those grievances which the union would win most if not all of and the cost of hiring, training ,and then ultimately getting rid of 240 people to replace the ones that ya just fired.
theyre just trying to do what they think gives them the best shot at running final monday night. no more, no less

I don't see how they could fire anyone over an AWOL. An AWOL is just an AWOL regardless if there's a basketball game on TV. Anyone who has a good attendance record could miss a day for a legit reason, call the attendane tracking hotline, and not give a hoot about the game. Sounds like grounds for a lawsuit to me.
