Let me start by saying my name is Angela Smith, I have been at Ford for 2 yrs and I'm not a guy (for those who have always assumed I was) My position at Ford..... Forklift Utility. I didn't get that position because of my Last name, I simply filled out a bid sheet. I was told there was no way I would get it, but apparently a lot of people with seniority did not fill out a bid sheet so a lot of us "new hires" slipped through the cracks. Last night I let some people from Michigan get to me..... I didn't deserve to be there, I didn't deserve to be utility, because you had to have at least 18 yrs plus to even think about getting a forklift position let alone utility. They hope that the Lincoln fails, the Escapes go to Michigan or wherever and LAP closes.... Then looked at me and said.... No offense to you..... UMMMMMMMM IM VERY OFFENDED BY THAT. Not just for me, but for EVERYONE who works at LAP. Yeah I have posted stuff on here, some truth, some just to aggravate certain people..... Do I have perfect attendance...nope, had some medical issues, however in the 2 years I have been there my attendance isn't bad, the 18 month period just makes it hard... However, I'm no where close to losing my job because of it. I work hard, most of the time I'm on a stand up these days. I'm not on my cell phone all night playing games... I have worked on A crew and B crew on OT and have met a lot of great people.... Everyone at Ford started at day 1..... They didn't just wake up one day with 20 years under their belt. I'm not going to apologize for having a forklift utility position, it is not my fault that people with a lot more seniority didn't fill out a bid sheet. I do fill I need to earn my way, and trust me, being a forklift utility isn't as fun as everyone seems to think it is. I don't need to hide behind a screen name and I don't care what people think about me. I do care when I hear people saying they hope LAP shuts down. I mostly get on this site to see what Tony posted because I find it informative. However, sometimes I can't help myself to say something like now..... To those from Michigan that truly feel this way? Be careful for what you wish for.... Michigan is a right to work state now, a lot of people are jumping off the UAW SHIP... If people keep staying divided, Ford wins, unions out and seniority isn't shit anymore, new hires (2tier) will be pushing legacy out the door with lower wages. I don't want to see that happen, I don't want to see LAP fail and I definitely don't want to lose my job. I want to one day be at legacy pay, may never happen but I won't stop fighting as long as I'm working at Ford

I do not think most transfers feel that way. I think most people are just ready to be one plant, transfers , native, two tier and legacy. We all have to work and the constant negativity makes it suck! I think most people are ready just to make this work.

I agree 100% last night was crazy! I seen more fighting (screaming and yelling) then I have ever seen since I have been at LAP. I will be so glad when we can be one plant and not have so many divisions. In the 2 years I have been there it just seems to be getting worse

There's your winner for the stupidest thing that has come out of anyone's mouth since I've had ears. The person that said that obviously doesn't want to work at Ford and should definitely just quit. Ccrewdummie, you really need new "work friends".
The Escape and the Lincoln are both doing fine. Detroit is very happy with our plant's progress. The legacy employees will definitely retire, and the 80/20 percentage rule will eventually lead to 2nd tier employees moving up into legacy status.

Thank you Mark and Tony. I don't believe all transfers feel this way, as a matter of fact most of all transfers that I am close to like it here and don't want to go back. I just let it get to me that night. I'm used to them constantly saying crap about us new hires (I don't feel like a new hire anymore).... But when they actually said they hoped LAP shut down so they could go back home because they were "vested" and wouldn't lose their job, I felt offended for everyone at LAP. It was my moment of weakness

Don't let it get to you Angela, you just are in an area with some morons. LAP isn't closing. Grimace knows what he's talking about. Never hear of any of that kind of stuff (screaming & yelling at each other) on our crew, really don't think it would be put up with long. Maybe I'm just in a good area. Hang in there.

If I was in Dearborn I'd question the way the launch was going though, from engineers to vendors and training. (or lack thereof)

Michigan isn't any better..... I bought a 2014 F150... Built in Dearborn..... It leaks in the cab every time it rains.... Not going into great details about it but going on 2 months with the same problem... Every plant has issues

Unfortunetlly Angela I have heard similar comments covering for committee.It does concern me,but they are a few.Those of us from LAP have always taken pride in the vehicles we build and this launch like many others will Iron itself out.There are more transfers and newer employees who want to see LAP succeed than not.I have meet some great people from other plants so don't let the few bad examples ruin your day.I believe with this next set of elections for LAP the right people will be elected and you will see SOLIDARITY brought back to LAP.There are those of us who will stand up for anyone and we are not in elected positions.Grimace is one them.I am a QL on chassis and my people and myself yell at each other all night, its all in fun and someone walking by might think we are outta control,but I can guareentee you that if management walks into my area they show my group respect or they get me. As I stray,just give it time and the old school (as we call it ) Lap Local 862 will be restored and things will get better.

@angela. Yes I have had same situations.
I haven't met a 1tier employee yet that hasn't in some shape or form made it clear to the new hires that they make more money or hold a higher position.like they are better than us.
Most will tell us 2ndtier folk...YOU HAVENT PUT YOUR DUES IN YET!. those r the same jerks that got full pay an benefits in 90 days.not this 3year partial dental n 7 year vision shit. If your tier 1 an u say u haven't.your a friccin liar. There is a huge division line in the company.just what Ford wanted. Because Ford knows they own our union more than those of us paying for the union. So y would anything chang3 now?
Everyone should get used to it.it wont change. Just don't b fooled around national contract time when those tier 1 assholes start being nice to us scum sucking tier 2's. They want us to vote for their raise so they can be even more "better than us"
Sorry.but my vote will go for tier 2 wage increases. You tier 1's need to get your head out of ur asses. Nobody likes douchebags.don't think for one second your the exception

Autoslave502, oooo somebody had pissed you off! Lol! I'm a 1st tier. I've never had to tell a 2nd tier that I make more money or have MORE SENIORITY than them. They already know. ;-) Just like I knew that when I hired in the ones before me made more & had more seniority. I can see where someone would tell you that you haven't put your dues in yet. You sound like a cry baby. You knew how much you were to make when you hired in. I'm sure the benefit package was also explained to you. The fact that ours was different when we hired in is not our fault, that is up to the company. We all start at the bottom on day one when we hire in. No need to be bitter. At least not towards your brothers & sisters. It's people with your attitude that the company loves. I'm sure they are loving the great divide amongst us. So keep on keeping on, brother! It will be people like you that will be the downfall of the UAW. I guess I should thank you in advance for my wage cut, paying for my own health insurance, taking away holidays & for the companies ability to fire at whim.

Most were greatfull a few didn't want to listen. Those were the ones that got fired or quit or still here and are pissed off. No doubt that 2nd tier should be making the same pay and benefits. That's Ford and the International UAW's fault, not mine. If anyone has the right to bitch, it needs to be our retiree's. They keep getting the shaft every contract.

Dont know where you got the idea that all tier 1 people got full pay & benefits in 90 days, took me a year and a half, I know some groups it took 3 years, its just according to what contract you hired in under. You unfortunately hired in under one of the worst contracts ever. I dont think for a minute that it actually legitimately passed, I dont know anyone that voted for it, I didnt & I dont agree that we should have 2 tier, so if you dont want all 2 tiers lumped together in the same boat, dont lump all of us 1 tiers together.

Don't let it get to you Angie!! I've been at LAP for over 26 years been utility fork and now work a dock on A crew. If the bid opens and you bid and get it then so be it. And for you people who wishes ill fate on LAP then they can go back to the streets on the city they came from and let the true LAP shine like it always has in the past.

The union lied, and told us that the lower wage employees would be doing non-standard jobs. That we would not have two people working side by side for different pay. I knew it was a lie. We all should have known it was a lie. Now we have people doing the worse jobs available, and making a fraction of the salary. It's our fault, and I feel real compassion for those people Some entry level employees have had the fortune of getting a bid job. That's great. Would have been better if they had also received the base pay rate attached to that classification. We could all use a raise, but ending two tier should be priority number one. Any Yankee who's unhappy here should feel welcome to go back. It's a big country. If you don't like my town, and think it's better somewhere else, just go.
