I know an electrician that saw the plans for paint shop. If it’s gonna happen I’m sure it’ll come up at contract time. Lol

I dont know about paint but I do know a contractor was back in ITR looking to remove the building and take body shop back toward the frame yard. Not only for body shop but to expand expedition and navigator trim. He said ITR would have a new building behind the frame yard.

Expansion for 2020 is huge. They bought the houses on Collins Lane. The railroad tracks, frame yard will be under roof back to the fence. The expansion will cause thousands to be hired. No news on new product.
I'm quite sure this will be used against you in the 2019 contract negotiations/vote

Are they going to keep the current super duty paint? No. They will do the same thing they did when “old” paint was first built. The new super duty paint shop will ramp up as the old one winds down.

However, if you're low seniority you should go over this with a committee person to get the specifics. I doubt that tpt's have roll rights. So if this rumor comes to fruition there will be several of us, me included, who will take the buyout (again, RUMOR). Some folks will wait until contract to take a buyout along with folks from KTP. Another rumor I've heard is that we will go back to a five day 10 hr work week schedule. If they do this and also go back to tag relief it takes a lot of people to pull reliefs. Therefore, between buyouts, tpt's and possible tag relief you may be higher up the totem pole than you think. The layoff rumor is very strong out here right now but no one will admit to it. My first thought when I heard the rumor a few weeks ago is that Ford Motor Co isn't that good at predicting ahead of time that they will not need a third shift come next Spring. Presently, the order bank is where it always is but then I heard from one person that the company had been looking at the five day ten hour work schedule it kind of all fell together. Rumors, rumors, rumors!!

People from LAP can only bump over here if we are in hiring mode, the bumping between plants was changed years ago. When LAP shut down for a year about a thousand people thought they could bump to KTP and they were shut down immediately. Dave Farley and some of upper management and upper union allowed KTP to go in hiring mode for over 200 plus people and LAP had sign ups for the 200 plus. A lot of people from LAP got shipped to Chicago. Now the TPTs/STS have no seniority so they would be let go. I was in the meeting when the decision was made.

Do you recall if this decision was based on a permanent or a temporary layoff? Some folks who went to Chicago came back when production started again but I don't know if all of them came back. The ones who went and came back just couldn't afford to take the cut in pay (paycheck vs unemployment and sub) as they were still raising children or sole provider.

I don’t know the exact details but I know that it changed years ago. Temporary or permanent doesn’t matter, KTP had a permanent layoff back when the recession hit and there was a few hundred people in gen pool for a long time. Some of those people had seniority over people at LAP and thought the same thing but was told the same thing. Either plant has to be in hiring mode to have people transfer and bump.

You guys don’t know the half of it. Not only are there new hires in paint but they are on some of the easiest jobs in paint. They don’t even rotate to the spray jobs anymore. They just take the easiest jobs that use to take 15 years seniority to get.
