Also, after they go back, will KTP back fill with some new hires? Does anybody think original KTP employee's will have an option to sign up to goto LAP when they start hiring off the street? Congrats to LAP on the new product! If the new Escape looks anything like the Kuga, they gonna sell like hotcakes.

Hopefully everyone stays, we need everyone. Yes, we would most likely backfill with 2nd tier people since LAP will have already soaked up those laid off in other zones.
According to the currect language we at KTP would not have the right to go before LAP hired people. Some may have been misinformed on this in the past (I had this one wrong). We have asked the IUAW to allow us this chance, but I don't think it will happen.

That's a shame...people at KTP should get the option before new hires.

Thanks for the honesty Kess. People should have been told a long time ago about the 2nd tier plans at LAP. Nobody is going back without being on ILO. You still have recall rights. Not all bad. At least now nobody needs to worry about missing out on job bids at LAP.

I do not quite get the 'missing out on job bids' comment either. My reading comprehension skills suck tonight. Please explain further 'ol buddy. Thanks again for the coveralls...doing me wonders in body.

Thanks Brian for clearing that up. Hope the IUAW would give us a chance to go before they hire people off the street. Was hoping we would go back to a 4 day work week here but it doesnt seem like we ever are. By what i read in the paper last week though Ford wants all their plants to be at 100% capacity so maybe there is a chance in the future of us going back to 3 crew.? Only way i see that happening is if we absorbed some F150/Econoline production. Im with Scott and my dream is to go back to 3 12's in body haha. Good times there!

The 'must be on ILO to return to LAP' had me wondering what you meant...but I think I understand now. If they survey us in March to gauge the interest in returning to LAP...they could very well put us out on the street anytime after that awaiting a call from LAP with a return to work date, correct? So that means we could end up on ILO with no exact date to return while KTP has to hire people to take our spots. There's no way to hire 400 people and train them all in one week...so over the 4 months or so after they gauge our interest, they could start replacing 25-50 a week until LAP opens. This will be very interesting for those returning to LAP.

I'm staying at KTP, but I live in Oldham county. I don't want to start all over again on nights. I got into stock in Body Shop and it's not to bad. Good luck to all who decide to go back.

So out of the 460 how many do you think will return? I would like to be able to hold days in Body sometime in the next few years and right now im on the bubble, i like what im doing now but as my kids get older it would be nice to be on a regular dayshift without worrying about being bumped all the time.

Well...not many of the 2nd group will go back. Most of them are currently on better jobs than they ever had at LAP...but I see a pretty good majority of the rest going back. My initial guess (which will change daily) is 301.

I'm Thinking of going to LAP. It would be 25 minutes shaved off my 90 minute drive. I've heard good and bad. Give me some reasons to go or stay. And no, I'm not moving closer before you comment on that!!

LAP is Happy Land compared to KTP, but you have several other reasons to go or stay. As for the ones that never came from LAP...you won't get the chance to go to LAP, which is a shame. I will reiterate the reasons I used to go to KTP. I don't believe you realize what 30 years at one place does to your mind. Some people are perfectly okay being stuck in a paradigm as they say. If you can accept change, seek it. Change does the mind and body good...meaning it can be a very healthy change. I was hoping to spend 14 years at KTP...been there @ 2 and it has been a decision I am glad I made. Regardless of the period I felt like I made a bad choice, I'm still happier working vs. being off for months awaiting retool. We all go through difficult times at work...you can't coast thru 30 years without encountering speed bumps. There is one big reason I would like to go back to LAP...closer to my future homestead. But there are many reasons I ought to stay at KTP. I could go on being a relief man for 12 more years and have a pretty easy time leading up to retirement. Being my seniority is so much better at KTP, my future may include many more opportunities at better jobs. If I was asked today, I would be staying at KTP.

I believe that LAP will be a very different place when it is "re-tooled" and a new product is launched.

The biggest difference will be keeping the revolving door moving as slowly as possible when the new lower wage employees realize they are not going to work that hard for $30,000 a year while someone doing less is making $60,000. I expect 'I QUIT!' will be a heavily used phrase. The only chance they have of keeping the new wage workers is by giving them gravy jobs...and how will that go over with the senior employees?

LAP will have changes that occur with the launch of a new vehicle(s). but the continuity that works between all current employees there will not change. I guess you would have needed to work there to understand this.

In early 1990 Steel started hiring people to replace those who returned to Ford. All new people who came to steel were paid 85% of what Ford people made, and the new people were told they would never be paid what Ford people made....This created a have and a have not mentality ..... If there was a shitty job, give it to the 85%er, no seniority individual, etc Later it was (from some wacko's) I deserve more representation than those 85%ers, I pay more dues (2 hours pay) It created distrust between haves and have not's......Never had people felt more like second class citizens... slippery slope 2 tier wage scales , just a word of caution ....The last great saying was..."hey they knew the conditions coming in, no one forced them to take the job".... most everyone has a family to feed.... enough said

So let me get this straight...people were able to come over from LAP and in the process bump KTP workers from day shift and be closer to their homes/families. Now these workers DON'T have to go back to LAP but KTP workers can't go to LAP??? Aren't we all in the same union/local???

By the time those on ILO, KTP & Kansas city come back I dont see there being much room for very many 2nd tier workers.

The reason people were able to come from LAP to us is they had people on ILO. If we have people on ILO at the time LAP needs people (but we won't) we would then have that oppertunity.

I believe the work environment is better at LAP because they do not have the team concept. From what I have seen here the team concept pits employee against employee. At LAP its employee against the company and there isnt all the fighting among the teams. You don't have team leaders in charge of peoples over time which doesnt always work fairly. I would much rather do with out the team leaders, but I will stay at KTP because its closer to home and I dont have that many more years to go.
