If we are ever going to get what we deserve in this contract it might come down to our willingness to strike. We are getting a great opportunity with this profit sharing. Save it !! If we all have a month or more in savings we will stick together in stronger solidarity when the time comes. A lot of people vote because they can`t afford a per long strike. Lets take that problem out of the equation.

Nice Post! Every employee will see the hardest contract time they have seen since they have been at Ford Motor Company, period. After the failed modification attempt, everyone now knows what will be brought to the table again.
You will need as much in your savings as possible to withstand a strike situation. If you were to go out, Ford would make sure to keep you there as long as possible to win what they want. Prepare for much longer than a month, though. As much as you can save this year - do it!!!!!
If it passes without a strike, you have just solidified your personal finances for the future. (In case of injury, etc.)

Bob came down to local 249 when they tryed to sell that last concession....He wasn't exactly met with a positive responce. But, I see no indication that he would be any diffrent this time around.

TonyV you are right . 2 or 3 months income in savings would make all of us more cocky about what we will that from the company.
For the next 8 months everybody on this site needs to push that issues.
We also need to push the fact that the UAW will try their hardest to get us to pass the first thing they bring down the Chanel.

The "no strike" clause was in the modification contract that we voted down. We can still strike. GM and Chrysler can not. That is why Ford will be the target company.

I believe Rocky is right. Ford does not have a no strike clause.
I don't think we are going to be as bad off in the upcoming contract negotiations though. I hope I'm right.

I feel the same..don't think Ford wants to lose the momentum that is has now with a strike.

I understand that, but we will never strike. They will continue to bend over and take it like always.

strike or Not, if you don't have saving equal to three months set aside now is an excellent time to do so. the future Contract clearly shows that trouble will be brewing. it is suicidal not to have a monetary reserve set aside. I have been preaching this for years. I Know most of you have listened and put that money a way for the storm that's coming.

I agree with Scott. The chances of the UAW having the guts to call a strike is very slim and will most likely never happen. However Shrek is correct that we should all prepare financially for a strike. Every financial advisor will tell you that you should have at least 3 months of income in reserves.

I have a question for all ILO and TLO's. If there is a strike while being laid off do we still collect UI and subpay?

|
|
Post by dave7293 on Jan 30, 2011 16:02:58 GMT -5
Tonyp that is one hell of a question . I hope for the LAP guys you still get it but I have no ideal. The union may be able to answer that but I have learned that they are only right when they really do their research for the answer and that`s not often.

You would be on strike like the rest of us...strike pay every week...no SUB or UI...because there would be no contract. No contract means no SUB.

Let me clarify why there will NEVER be another strike...if we vote NO, they change the contract a little, we still vote NO, they change it a little more, we then vote YES, we go back to work. They will adjust and adjust until we agree...which always leads me to believe why would you ever accept the first offer...vote NO, make them come back to the table with more for us until we are happy to vote YES.

How much would strike pay be?

enough for a hot cocoa and a zebra cake.

If I remember correctly, I beleive that strike pay is $100 per week and you must show up for picket duty to be eligible.

Post by brenteskridge on Jan 30, 2011 23:38:57 GMT -5
I believe stike pay is 200$ and you do have to work pick duty in 4 hr slots. You can work outside, down at the hall or whatever spots that need to be covered.

Post by dave7293 on Jan 31, 2011 3:25:46 GMT -5
Brenteskridge is right it is $200. a week and you do have too picket as he stated. The sick thing is its been $200. for over 16 years. Even Ford gave us a pay raise. The longest strike ever for Ford was a few months back in the real shitty days.

I also agree that a strike will never happen. Ford is already trying to negotiate the contract through the media. They made sure to let everyone know publicly that the "gave us more than they were contractually obligated to". This way when contranct time comes and we want to vote NO. The general public (who hates us all anyway) will say "fucking ungreatful UAW workers..Ford gave you 2000 extra dollars"....and we will fold....Ford wins.

I can't tell you how many people have came up to me and said something about my big bonus Ford is giving me in the last week.
The media is doing their job for Ford.

In the last few decades major strikes have shown to hurt both sides equally, with no real gains made. Many times the strike resulted in far reaching hardship for many more workers than the striking force, suppliers, transportation, ect... Too many other U.S. workers are already out of a job, there would be little public support for a strike in my opinion.

there will be no strike.
the concessions we made will take years and years to get back,if ever, and the only way we ever will is through sustained profitability for ford.
the beauty of it is though,if you are really getting screwed so bad,you are always free to walk out the gate and never come back.its still the best job in town , we all know that. many people out of work would knock their own mothers down to have our jobs.

I agree ar15a2, this nonsense about KTP being a prison is pretty stupid. I dont think prisoners make $30 an hour, or leave anytime they want, nobody but yourself keeps you there.

I agree with you AR15. The gate turns both ways and I know people not out of work who would slap they mommy to work here. Where can I buy a kit with everything except the lower receiver? I agree with you too lucero, but the T-shirts do look cool.
