I don't think we have much of a family here union or not. I'm constantly amazed by just how selfish and short sighted we can be. That said, if we were right to work, I think I'd have removed myself the day after the IUAW forced a dues increase on us, even if only for a couple of days, but it would have sent the message. As for now? Dunno. I really don't think we have a "scab" problem so much as we have a lack of any real leadership to get behind, and leaving the UAW is just a way to vent frustration, and make a statement.

Whatever the number/s the UAW has only themselves to blame. Giving the individual worker a choice to vote with their wallet is totally opposite of forced membership. If members are happy with what they receive for due paid you will lose no one. On the other hand if people feel they are not receiving representation or benefits for dues paid people will opt out. Oh, the evil republican/s that is giving the individual worker a choice over forced membership supported by most democrats.

Shouldnt be forced to join anything you dont want to. American flag flying out front. May get the unions in line if they cant hold a gun to your head and take your money without your permission. I would continue to pay dues but do believe an individual should have the choice.

That's fine you should have rights so should the company & the union. First it is a union shop, you knew that when you came to work here. They didn't recruit any of us, we all came here looking for a job . Secondly if you don't want to pay the dues you shouldn't be able to have the same pay or benefit package as a due's paying member. You should not be entitled to the grievance process either if you get yourself into trouble. People do you really think the company gives you these benefits free because they like you. WAKE THE HELL UP !

It's real simple. Even if you quit paying dues and cease being a member, your wages, benefits, etc., will continue to be negotiated FOR YOU by the UAW. The UAW will still have to provide a minimum of representation FOR YOU if you ever find yourselves in trouble for something. The UAW can only exist if there are dues paying members. ANY organization requires some level of funding in order to function.
Therefore, those of us that will continue to pay our dues will effectively be SUBSIDIZING the economic welfare of those of you who will not be paying dues. The only way that this would NOT be the case is if the non-payers had to negotiate their own pay and benefits package, independently, on their own with the company, like some people do with other companies, such as managers, etc. Even if you were allowed to do that, you would never be able to negotiate wages and benefits for yourselves as high as the UAW has for you. SO, you will still be DEPENDENT on the union for your wage and benefit structure, and therefore dependent on those of us who will continue paying dues to support the existence of that union.
It's actually pretty disgusting and hypocritical how you so-called anti-welfare, individualist, anti-leech "I get mine on my own!" types don't have any problem leeching off everyone else as soon as you get the first chance. If you're going to have the UAW negotiating your wages for you, but refuse to pay a cent to them for such an important service, then you're a leeching, ingrate bum. Make sure you thank a continued union member from time to time for keeping your life afloat for you.

Stop funding the union and watch it collapse. Come on people! Really? You may have a beef with our current elected officials but you get rid of the union completely and most of us will be fired within a short period of time. Remember the buyouts? Without our union coverage of drug and alcohol abuse, you know all the people that go to tembrooke, etc. Ford would have done drug testing and there would have been no buyouts. Profit sharing, signing bonus, family days, vision and dental, health care. AWOL policy, holidays, shut down pay. Let's get rid of the union and see how many of the legacy employees are left in 5 years.

I will always pay dues because OF the past. Men and Women who started a union in the first place. That being said it would be nice to see the UNION RAN WITH SOME BALLS LIKE IT WA WHEN THEY STARTED IT..I actually worked at a union shop before I came to ford and all We did was hire an Attorney to negotiate for us when the contract came around and we never had a problem? Why couldn't the non union people do that?Anyway I'm for if its a union Co then pay the dues.I think most RTW states have seen their Co.s leave or close. Therefore you have those workers wondering "union ?Where are they now the whole fucking city is closed down"?And I'm out a job ???Why pay dues???I see that too...JMO tho...

BUT, i would pay twice what im paying now just for the job security that being in a union provides. its crazy when you think about all the money just from sub pay, short work week, TAP, and moving allowances that ive received because of the union.

exactly, the raising of dues by a show of hands was maybe the most gutless thing Ive seen the union do. You make a case for why you would like to raise the dues & let the membership vote on it. A quick "all for it say I" "all opposed say I" is just spineless. The money I pay per year, roughly $850, is probably the best money I spend and honestly worth alot more than that.

Great post Metalman & Gator. I don't agree with everything the union does either but with a company as big as Ford we need them . We still make a good wage & have good benefits. We can complain all we want but there are several people that would like to be in our place. It's our job to flush the turds down.

Because of the union you get so many strikes for drugs and alcohol as long as you get help. I was told by someone in labor that Ford could have done drug testing and fired enough people to not have to do buyouts but because of our strike policy it would have cost Ford more money than the buyouts to do rehabilitation. So the buyouts got rid of a high percentage of addictions therefore saving Ford in the long run. True or not I don't know but sounds legit.

I'm not argue but if they tested EVERY employee we wouldn't be able to run ..But I'm sure buyouts helped at the time, but we have a lot of new people.

I heard on AM talk radio that when RTW hit Indiana, 95 PERCENT of union workers stopped paying dues. Maybe the possibility of RTW in Ky will wake up the "they can do that" crowd. I am not going to hold my breath.

I am not going to hold my breath. I doubt the credibility of that report. I worked in several union shops in a RTW state and generally about 95-98% of the workforce voluntarily joined the union and paid dues.

That is not a true number 95%:did not opt out. You people don't understand how it works. They are putting out bogus numbers . If you want out get out, but you better cover your ass on everything. Don't think if a defect comes down the the line and the union dues paying member and a none union dues paying member are going to get the blame guess which one is going to take to the hit. The union will represent you to the minimal limit they have to. You will feel the pain.

I pay union dues and our whole team went WEEKS without seeing our committeeman on more than one occasion. I worked near the union offices. We had an issue at startup on night shift and the rep was called by my TL. The rep tried to fix it over the phone? He never showed up? That is pathetic !!!!

If you wife is paying your attorney's fees for your behalf while negotiating your divorce with her...... That's kinda a conflict of interest and your attorney is more apt to protect her interest Your local committee rep works for Ford. Is paid by Ford. Reports to labor daily. Is quite chummy with labor I think that's a conflict of interest. It may be dumb, but that's how I see it.
