Seeing as though our brothers and sisters at GM are standing their grounds and striking, are we next? What is your thoughts? I got family who's been here for 20 plus years and says not a chance. I'm only 6 years deep in this. I'm ready to grab my sign and throw on my red shirt and picket if I have too! I'll grab my kids and bring them too! Whole family will be ready! LOL! SOLIDARITY

To be honest I didn’t think they would strike GM. Now that GM has dropped paying for healthcare I’d say it will end quickly. Ford just announced they are rebuilding the ford campuses in Dearborn and with the trane station rebuild it will add up to 2-3 billion they are spending so they got money to spend.

I have a paper that was handed out stating during a strike this would happen to our healthcare. No surprise to me.Guess nobody else (media) new this healthcare usually isn’t dropped until the end of the month for strikes/terminations/etc. Seems GM went to their chips a bit early, not good poker players, imagine they will fold first. Hoping a gate collection is coming to help our brothers and sisters out, it’s the least we can do

Okay the media and our neighbors hear we make 73$ an hour including benefits. So I wonder why our union don’t step up and tell Ford “ pay or workers 60$ an hour and they will buy their own insurance “..I bet they backtrack on that.I can get insurance for 800 a month and I’m 55 ..Fucking liars.Give me 60$ an hour Ford saves 13$ an hour ..

Your forgetting pension cost, dental, vision, long term disability, short term disability. Not sure at this point I would want to buy it myself, if I was 22 and they contributed to my 401k instead of a pension maybe but I’ve been on this ride too long to get off now.

We all feel your pain. Next time someone chastises you about your overpaid union job, shooting a couple bolts in a fender and making $80/hr, remind them that we are hiring and why haven’t they put their application in yet?? If they haven’t put in an application but they still keep complaining tell em to STFU!! Also, I ain’t in anyone’s way, holding them back from getting a better job. If you want a better life for yourself go out and get it! No ones gonna hand it to you! Ugh!!!

I agree. It’s a race to the bottom with no exit strategy. These big corporations want to shed all their employees and replace them with automation and AI. Problem is no one will have any money to buy the junk they’re selling. But it’s full speed ahead regardless. Remember, part of the stipulation of the GM bail out a decade ago was to insert government appointed “overseers” on the board of directors. Also including their overpaid ($22m/yr). Since that time GM has made no bones about their ambition to move production to China. She was quoted as saying no one cares where cars are made anymore, they just want them cheaper. Problem is they’re not getting any cheaper no matter where they’re made. Hell, these trucks we build cost at least twice as much as they did when we hired in and our hourly wage has been stagnant. But it’s all those overpaid hourly union goons that drive the price up! 🤦🏻♂️

So what do we want? What is being offered thus far? Hire all temps, equal pay, same insurance benefits, keep profit (bigger formula), pension,COLA, end tiers and a big sign on bonus is what I've gathered. They have agreed on 11 out of 20 things so far. What do y'all think we will get besides screwed? Lmao I'm only kidding. Just give me a little bit of everything mentioned above and $15000 sign on and I'll think about singing..lol

That figure that the company touts also includes their cost for unemployment insurance and workman's comp, which every employer pays. Most companies do provide some type of health care program, we just pay less for ours (our deductible and co-pays). Most companies pay into or match their employees 401k. If you add all of these per hour cost to these screaming assholes their pay is closer to ours than they think.

Forgot, remind all those jackasses that fuss and say no wonder vehicles cost so much that our labor cost accounts for only 7-9% of the price of a vehicle.

My thoughts, cuz youre ALL on the edge of your seats for this.
1. A GM strike was inevitable the minute Barra answered the question about closing plants in the US and moving profitable products to Mexico with "Nobody cares where their cars are made" Getting product commitments for "unallocated" plants is a must or the UAW membership at GM will just continue to shrink.
2. The whole argument about how we make SOOOOOOOOO much just boils my blood. No, because you make TOO LITTLE doesn't mean we make too much. And yes, I always invite the fatass desk jockeys who say this shit to come apply and ill empty my wallet to them if they haven't passed out by last break.
3. This is why it is a MUST for us to eventually organize a transplant, VW in TN was and is the best chance. If the TN GOP politicians hadn't made the threats they made, it would have happened. When a growing percentage of the workforce in this industry is HAPPY to vote to keep making less and less, and MUCH less than us, the downward pressure on our compensation is immense.
4. I'm not of the mind that this will end soon at GM. There is too much bad blood, and GM's move to shift healthcare so soon was hardball. I think GM is in this for the long haul. It's going to take almost a month to really hurt them. They may see this as their best chance to bludgeon the UAW into submission on longstanding issues.

It was already nearly impossible to get a transplant to join the UAW and now the greedy ibig dogs that are stuffing their pockets full of union money have assured that it will never happen. Ironic that the very people preaching to get transplants are the very ones that assured that it will never happen.
